Wow finally all politiking aside the B-17 will return to the States, I have been loosely following that story for 30 years since I first read about it, they made some good points about tourism, obviously since remote location no good for tourists, its a point I have been stating for years about aircraft underwater, bring em all up so we(enthusiasts) and the public can see them whatever condition they are in, of course money can fix/rebuild anything if you want to make them fly, did anybody see where the location in the US will be?
Amazing Peter, would have enjoyed being there, looking forward to the next 2 engines running as well, will be a sight for sure, did you get a chance to see Calgarys’ Lancaster Peter? Darrell
Great pictures Gerry , very lucky lad indeed, Darrell
Well a few years back I tracked a fella who bought some of Spartan/Kentings Mosquito slipper fuel tanks, he converted a couple to canoe/motorboats, when I got to him he had scrapped them all, I cant think that they would have worked any good? Darrell
Anson looks great Andrew, wonder if the old owner of the Harvard would be happy with the progress of the rebuild? Ken Gambles old girl sat out there on highway 6 for 40 odd years. Darrell
Should be a great event, I hope all goes well, enjoy yourself Peter, take lots of pictures, will the 2 engines be run up at the event? Darrell
Very interesting, is the price low maybe?
Was MacKenzie the “mad ******” ? I had read that account years ago of his exploits but dont know of Percy?
Well done Tony, I have read the account of his heroics, ever wonder why only one VC awarded to fighter command? there had to be additional actions of merit, I often wonder of the stories that never had a chance to be told.
Not Anson for sure, is that phenolic construction or aluminum? how about Auster? Chipmunk? looks light aircraftish by framework.
Hi try Garcia Aviation, hes in the southern states, decent prices, cheers Darrell
Thanks fellas, yes Peter , I just wanted to hear it from some other chaps, new it wasn t true Darrell
An ex-outhouse?
Well this was used an an outhouse!
Those 1154s are rare over here too, last one on the “bay” sold about a month ago for 800 pounds, so I would hate to pay for post as well.
George “Buzz” Beurling no doubt a great fighter pilot in my view, great eyesight, great deflection shooter and great flyer, sadly misrepresented somewhat because of his demeanor, but I always thought if the RCAF did give him his own 4 ship element as he wished , well he may have shot down many more aircraft. Definitely a true character for sure.
