I’m impressed with the research that you blokes are able to do, these pictures have been stored in a small leather album for 60 years, they’ve been a source of intrigue to me since I was a kid, there are some more in a box in the loft, including a portrait of a particularly evil looking Nazi.
What was the role of the Luftwaffe personel, were they responsible for airfield defence or did they form fighting units, I know they did later in the war, I have some Luftwaffe insignia that my father ‘liberated’ at the same time, whether they are off some of the characters in the pictures I wouldn’t like to speculate.
The date on the Dornier picture is 20th September 1940, would that be relevant, also the reference to the Molders picture being October 1940.
Sorry, these pictures are minute, only about 50 x 75mm, I’m surprised that they scanned so well, you see more on the scanned picture.
Is it not possible to identify this one by the squadron letters, cockpit looks a bit of a mess. The tracked vehicle looks like a Bren to me, presumably captured at Dunkirk, I wonder what happened to these blokes.
And more.
Some more pictures, presumably Luftwaffe personel
Sorry, still haven’t got the hang of this, the Germanic script is off the back of the photo’s, not all are labelled however, the spitfire should be identified by someone, probably near Dunkirk, the group photo looks to have been taken at Derby loco works, wishfull thinking, and is on a postcard format, have got more where these came from only they tend to be army.
Luftwaffe pictures
Have cut the grass, watched some snooker, seen that Norwich have won again, and now my dear beloved has come back from shopping and helped me out, hopefully this should work.
Help, it doesn’t want to know, anymore advice, I’ll go and cut the grass and come back later.
Oh dear, I uploaded the scanned pictures but they haven’t appeared, what do I do next?
Looks like Jarvis Cocker to me, is he off to strafe Michael Jackson, presumably without wearing any trousers.
Independance Day:- RAF pilots in the Iraqi? desert picking up the morse signals but sitting in front of an F16 marked up in 43 Squadron markings, they could have at least used a Marine Corps AV8-B.
Noisiest aircraft
How about the Polish Fitters at Coltishall back in August, the explosion when the afterburners came on during the take off run cleared my tinatus.
Was anybody at Coningsby 1988, weather excrutiatingly hot with no clouds, palatable local cheap beer just for starters.
The first Queens Birthday flypast by Tornado F2’s took off for London and flew back in formation, though I can’t remember whether there were 9 or 16, I know that one had to abort and made the shortest landing I’ve ever seen by a Tornado, the rumour was that they had concrete in the nose in place of radar.
This was followed by a dogfight with the local OCU Phantoms which took up a lot of sky.
Highlight of the day was the assembly at the BBMF hanger of every flyable Spitfire from around the country plus several non flying gate guards, I seem to remember that 7 took off and made one ragged formation pass, including Spencer Flacks red one, I think that the Merlins were suffering from the heat, would this have been the biggest Spitfire formation from the Battle of Britain filming till Duxford’s Spitfire show?
flying at lakenheath
Did a charity bike ride in Norfolk on Good Friday a few years ago and on the way passed Lakenheath. Was surprised to see that they were flying on a Bank Holiday, however maybe it isn’t a US Bank Holiday.
As is usual on a friday the flying stopped early afternoon, we set off from Swaffham sports centre mid morning and the sky was full of Eagles, probably taking advantage of the RAF’s day off.
