Anyone seen the video of the VC10 pair jolly on Youtube, filmed on saturday, it’s easy to find. A family day out from Brize during Family Day, two VC10’s out to Cornwall and back loaded up with the families of the RAF personell.
Me, I think it’s a great video and considering the hardships that the families of the RAF in the various war zones have to put up with, it’s a fantastic and deserved treat for them. Trouble is, I’m waiting for the media circus to jump on it and start whingeing, they inevitably will, sad isn’t it. These aren’t members of the Royal Family using military equipment to visit girlfriends at the Tax payers expence, they are ordinary RAF family folk enjoying a deserved day out, they get my full support.

I agree Steve, trouble is, you should see my mothers next door neighbour, he is the most obnoxious, selfish, ignorant git you could ever come across. It’s very sad, he’s doing Indian residents no favours at all on their road. They have every former nationality going, and they are all lovely people, West Indians, Pakistani Moslems, et al, my mum is 93 and they all look out for her, and help her out, but he is appalling, his once lovely garden is full of rubbish, apparantley its the way it is, hmmmmm, he even tries to get her to do his washing for her, he really wants a good kicking and the next time I go up there, he might end up in serious trouble, I’ve had enough of him, yes, there’s always one, but he’s really the most dreadfull person going, and him and his equally obnoxious wife are so called professionals too.
I wish they would go away and let decent people move in, whoever they are.

I walked up to our local war memorial yesterday, which is situated in a beautiful park, but apart from my little plaque and poppy that I put on there on Saturday, there was nothing. I was quite surprised that in this town of 35,000 souls, that no-one, particularly our strong local British Legion, had bothered to remember the day, they were obviously too tied up with the local carnival. I’m sure that several locals were killed at D-Day including one of the local gentry at Spains Hall, an officer who died at Caen, his descendants still live at Spains, pity they couldn’t be bothered to remember his sacrifice, sad isn’t it.

Christ, I’ve been reading this, what a petty waste of debating time, there’s possibly going to be an in house Sea Fury at Legends with a Centaurus engine too, does it matter whether the tail wheel isn’t right or one bit of the fuselage came from Outer Mongolia, somebody has taken the trouble to tell us and publish photo’s, isn’t that enough, I bet you’ll be all drooling over it next month, whether it’s a hybrid or not, or are some of you going to have words with Stephen Grey and put him right.

Please excuse my ignorance, I have tried to Google for the information, but why exactly is the Vimy replica being retired.
I saw it for the first time at the DX Spring Airshow and thought it was a magnificent beast, but does it’s obvious complexity and uniqueness cause insurance, maintenance and CAA problems which suggest that it’s totally uneconomic to operate without a massive imput of constant funds, a bit like a certain V bomber.

Did anybody attend the 50th celebrations in 1994, now that was sensational.
At the time, the BBC more or less covered most of the events live, but I never saw them as I was in France. I wondered whether some of their professional footage had ever been made available, I’ve Googled but can’t find anything.
I took a lot of web cam coverage myself but can’t play it back as my Video 8 masters won’t play on a digital format and the cost of putting them on disc is extortionate, though, someday, perhaps.
The thing is, much of my footage, particularly with regard to the flypasts were a bit, shakey and personal, and these things tended to sneak up on your when you weren’t expecting them to.
I recall the mass parachute drops at Ranville involving UK and Canadian Hercules, I was right underneath them.
I recall the US flypast heading for Omaha, but it took us by surprise, from memory, 4xF-14, Prowler, Intruder, Hornet, 1xC-17 and B-1.
The French supplied Pink Lady and a P-51 that I recall were skipping the waves off Arromanches.
The BBMF flypast over Arromanches I seem to recall was unusually ragged, then we had the Reds and a Diamond 9 ? flight of Tonkas.
Did anyone take any pics that day as I don’t recall anything ever being published on here.
I doubt whether any events will surpass what happened that year, but good luck to those who are going, my vet is no longer with us I’m afraid.

Thanks for letting us know, you will no doubt keep us informed as most of us no longer are able to see it on TV as its on Aussie/US controlled Sky unless you are a millionaire and are able to afford Sky.
    Nosmo

I also think that Sky’s take over of Test Cricket coverage and it’s subsequent removal from terrestrial TV has really knocked the interest in the game in this country, perhaps thats what Herr Murdoch wanted to happen. Funny thing is, we had some Sky door to door salesmen round last week, really nice bloke as well actually, When I told him, no way, couldn’t afford it, he said, don’t tell me you hate Murdoch and you’re p@ssed off about the exclusive Ashes coverage. He was a black guy so I told him I was peed off with missing the West Indies as well, he said it was the attitude of most people, which didn’t surprise me.
I also think that nice Mr Ruperts overbidding for football rights in this country has screwed that game up as well.
I’m just waiting for F1 to vanish into Skies pocket, I think it’s the only thing that the BBC have left, I personally can’t stand it, but many people do, then off course it will be the Cup Final.
I had to watch it on ITV yesterday, their timing with the adverts is beyond belief sometimes, it really ruins the atmosphere of the whole thing, but at least we didn’t have to put up with a commentary from that droning, useless pillock David Pleat, how can ITV justify his no doubt massive salary that he probably spends on some of the corner girls he hung out with during his Spurs managerial days.

Certainly if you look closely at some parts of the dog fighting scenes you will glimpse “Very Un English” landscapes below, from memory brown and arid, presumably Spain!

There’s a similar problem in ‘Piece Of Cake’. The Heinkel shootdown scenes were filmed in the USA and if you look at the landscape below you’ll see it’s very ‘un French’.
I went to DX nearly every day when they were filming ‘Memphis Belle’ and an early concern from the film makers was the amount of oil seed rape fields that were in bright yellow bloom during the allotted filming slot. Oil seed wasn’t grown during the war, however mustard, with a similar appearance, was, particularly in Norfolk. I seem to remember that most of the ariel filming was carried out over Southwold because there weren’t so many oil seed crops over that part of Suffolk. Mind you, if they were that concerned, they could have put the filming slot back a couple of weeks and the problem would have gone, I noticed that the crop across the other side of the runway at DX Spring Airshow was beginning to fade.
It’s a pity that so many of the so called French scenes in BoB were so obviously filmed in Spain, the frigging great mountain in the background when Goering arrives in Calais was one particular example, perhaps one day it will be re-mastered in CGI, no, throw up hands in horror, it would never be the same.

Does beating baby seals to a hideous and painfull death with clubs help with your self esteem as well as your use of English and does it have that much of an effect on your economy.
Perhaps they should re-introduce rats on the menu in Warsaw, it was traditional in the 1940’s I believe.

About 30 years ago, I happened to wander into Duxford, I recall that it wasn’t a properly established museum then, or the day that an airshow was taking place.
What I seemed to be aware of was that Robs Lamplough, and I must have been told that by a passer by, was about to attempt to take off in a Buchon, or to me, a Bf109. I’d never seen or heard a ‘real’ German fighter in flight before and was quite a thing to anticipate seeing. I recall that the take off and landing was very dodgy, particularly the landing.
I took quite a few pictures with my Zenit-E of what was to me, a momentous occasion, however, I can’t find them and I’ve been looking for years for the prints, what a sad loss, but they must be somewhere. I have, however, found this double exposure, which is actually quite interesting as it shows as well a silver Sally B, you’ll have to work out whats what, but I thought that you might find it interesting, and in a way, a little ironic.

I reckon that film must have some great pictures on it of DX in the old days, I shall have another search.

I hope the P-51’s keep their markings for Legends, they look superb, perhaps someone has a link to George Lucas and can ask him nicely.
Incidentally, isn’t ‘Janie’ an original Tuskegee veteran?
