Not quite the picture the BBC article is painting…..hence my problem with it!
I guess he was mostly referring to younger entrants with potentially unrealistic hopes. Not many do it well enough to really make a living, as I understand it.

As long as she’s happy and free with her choice , i don’t see what can possibly be the problem here , other that some peoples narrowmindness. Besides , why i’m not in her place, career wise? I’m male btw, and thinking only if i had the looks and the “gear” to somehow get in this business. Hell , i could have bought myself a real plane by now ! :p

Saw this documentary not long ago. I got the impression that it doesn’t necessarily pay much these days. One director (?) would urge his actors to have another/better source of income besides porn.
Not sure it’s all about looks and tools. Ability also plays into it.

I’ve been commercial for about a year, must get my TT up anyway to qualify for a job with one of the operators I’m currently aiming for.
I could see myself doing it given enough money (or external funding) and an opportunity to fly Spits somewhat regularly for an operator of some sort.
Is it possible to over stress the airframe in a light aircraft by pulling to hard into a turn? Do they have any way of telling you how much G you are pulling?
Yes, although I don’t know everything about every light GA plane out there.
Some planes come with an accelerometer in the cockpit showing the G load / load factor. I think some types may have an indicator which is not visible to the pilot in flight, but rather meant for technicians.
You can also calculate it using the following formula, were n = load factor and AoB = angle of bank:
n = 1 / cosine AoB (this assumes that you’re making a level, coordinated turn)
You wouldn’t normally care much about this equation during a flight, though, but it can be nice to know.
I can pretty much agree with Fedaykin at this point.
Sure, bombing civilian infrastructure is a hell of way to accomplish a mission.
Going a bit off-topic here, but as far as I know, interdiction missions against such targets can be done lawfully and as part of a reasonable strategy in order to cut enemy supply lines etc.
– It happens between NATO/NATO countries, NATO/non-NATO countries and non-NATO/non-NATO countries without major incidents other than a QRA jet puting the “violator” on track or forcing it to land. Why?? Because there are PROCEDURES for such situations that don’t necessarily include shooting something down right away!
Correct. It is governed by international law, at least for civil aviation.
The difference is that Syria knows that NATO wants to attack
(…)
In my mind there is no doubt that Syria was justified in shooting down the Turkish RF4.
Don’t you think it would be nice to get some more facts on the table first?
You’ve voiced a few opinions about the West / NATO, the media, hidden agendas, disinformation etc. in a somewhat certain way. Does it occur to you that you might be wrong about some things? Would it hurt to be a little humble? After all, a lot of what we do in this forum is to speculate. A lack of valid information is quite common.

Alrighty, lesson learned.
As a matter of fact I have heard interviews of syrian people who said that the “rebels” were threatening to burn their house because they didn’t participate in the rebelion.
Dozens of Syrian cops had been killed before the army too things in hand. Imagine just for one second what would happen in the US if some sort of religions fanatics organisation managed to murder dozens of cops within a few days with heavy weapons and all. Wouldn’t the army be called to take care of them?
Nic
As I’ve tried to point out before, the presence of more or less shady groups in Syria might be one reason why parts of the the international community are reluctant.

I could be wrong, but it seems to have been filmed using light amplification / “night vision” equipment, not IR.
And that thing looks like a flying Christmas tree.
Serbia was mission failed. Milosevic was finally overthrown but by his own people, not NATO.
We’re heading off-topic now, but did NATO’s objectives directly include Milosevic himself in that way? Can’t say I remember that.
The situation in Syria is more complex, because the Russians & Chinese took their lesson from what happened in Libya, where a no fly zone voted by the UN was somehow changed into a bomb at will zone & military intervention (you won’t have me beleive that there were no special forces all over the place).
Did you read the resolution text? Coalition / NATO spokesmen also gave clear statements that an operation would include air strikes. It was done time and time again well before the resolution was passed, if I remember correctly.
As far as I know, NATO and UN officials have reiterated that Syria is more complex due to the population. The Syrian armed forces, Russian and Chinese involvement etc. might play a role as well, of course. I don’t know everything.
Secondly, even if what the media say were true (and it is not), then the guy would show balls only by staying and fighting with the insurgency. Running away and leaving your family and friends behind is plain cowardly.
We don’t necessarily know the whole story. Also, from the BBC link in the first post:
A spokesman for the rebel Free Syrian Army, Ahmad Kassem, said the group had encouraged the pilot to defect, AP reported.
Would staying and fighting necessarily be better for his family and friends in terms of a possible government response?
Also, don’t forget that it can be easy for us to sit here and talk about balls.
Oh Nicolas spare us the typical anti-Western rant…
If the West is so bad then add me to the bad guy list…
Guess I’m a naughty boy too, then.
And then there is this one:
