. . . I will bring you one over that has been fired on ‘163, so you can show visitors what they look like,do etc? Alan.

Thanks for the offer Alan but we have several expended carts for the Canberra already (can’t hold ‘live’ carts at the museum). In fact four of them are strapped into the ‘away use’ cartridge holder up in the back hatch.

    Albert
Has been thought of but, unfortunately, impractible at this time. I think nearly all MAM’s frames are already out there in the sim world except, maybe, the BP111A and the Gannet.

My first Kemble was 1999. Fantastic atmosphere, good crowd and hamburgers and hot dogs by the hangar, Glen whizzing everywhere on his bike, his belt adorned with various comms kit, etc. The Kemble shows in those days (and 2000) seemed better somehow, more user-friendly, more like an open day rather than an air show.

For stringbag . . . here’s a pic of XH516 at Kemble 99 with the yellow nose door and some nervous looking young bloke standing next to it. 😉

The cross-over Hunters are from the 2000 display. That was a good one. Not just the airfield beat-up at the end (as shown in the video) but the airfield attack against an inflatable tank with the pilot’s transmissions over the tannoy.

    🙂

Machrihanish is now known as Cambletown airport.
I don’t know it they were ever separate.
    Anybody?
If not, you can combine those two and lose another ‘uncertain’
    Moggy

Machrihanish is indeed termed Campbeltown Airport. Used to be RAF Machrihanish (still is officially I think) and before that, during the war, it was HMS Landrail under the FAA with Firelies and the like. The airfield always has been and continues to be, Campbeltown’s airport, even during the war years (Dragon Rapides, Short Boxvan(?), Handley Page Friendships(?) or Heralds or the like (Maybe Fokker!) – apart fron the Rapides, dont know about GA stuff.

The USAF, USN and USMC all have had a presence there and have had since the mid 60s early 70s. And there remains a US (actually MoD) ‘controlled’ area on the airfield (the infamous ‘Black Hangar’).

Confirm a tower, WWII with modernisations I understand.

And inspired by Les’ use of the American spelling of ‘defense’ . . .

I shall have words with my editor about that slip up. Hope it didn’t color your reading of the piece.

But thanks for the correct use of the apostrophe.

Pondskater. It’s pretty much as I said in my post. Official photos are Crown, photos by individuals are theirs.

The NA statement “All material from The National Archives’ sources which are published, broadcast or displayed are subject to a reproduction fee” refers to a reproduction fee, not explicitly to a copyright fee. This is perfectly sensible as such an archive/organisation would charge an admin fee anyway (nowt’s for free).

Also, recalling my years as a Technical Author when I had to make, source and use corporate images. Any corporation, company, museum, and even individuals can purchase, or have passed over to them, the copyright rights to negative/print collections. (Albert may know about this aspect). If the copyright issue wasn’t negotiated at the time of purchase/transferr of the collection you need a better lawyer!

Regarding images from WWII aircrew/personnel, and with regard to time limitations, any official image is Crown; with personal pics by/of/from these chaps copyright is theirs.

Regarding an image taken by an individual. If this individual took the image(s) in the course of his/her work, ie by being asked or tasked to take it by their boss, the image copyright is vested in the company they work for – same as any bright ideas an individual has during employment. I took a couple or three rolls of 35mm of the DeLorean car under developmant at Lotus (did the manual for the thing). They are quite interesting but I cannot readily reproduce them willy-nilly as the copyright is not mine. Even though the images were taken by me for my exclusive use at the time, copyright belongs to the company I worked for. It just so happens I held onto the negs when the company changed a few years later.

However, having said all that, the copyright laws in this country are complex and even arcane. Best to explore and pin down the details of your own need before commiting. Anything said in this thread should be regarded as advisory only, not a legal position. I mean, if you get into trouble it’ll do you no good trying to cite the Flypast Forum in your defense.

Sorry, if I have missed something, but the whole issue is an unworkable farce with far too many ‘grey areas’. This is not doing RAF Public Relations any good.

Albert, as far as I understand it the ‘rules’ given on Crown Copyright do not apply to any and all photos taken by any uniformed (or civilian) personnel with their own kit. The rules apply only to those photographs taken officially by the service photographic branch (ie, in the RAF, the Photo Section). Personal photos by all and sundry are restricted, yes, but only on a security basis, eg, we were not allowed to take photos of the QRA or nuke areas at Gielenkirchen – happened anyway!

Consider, for example, the closing down of 39Sqn last year. There would have been a few RAF Photo Trade blokes dodging about with their digital Nikons – all their images are Crown Copyright and, if printed up, will be stamped as such on the reverse. But those photos taken by, say, Damien, will be DB’s copyright. Same for all those thousands of pics of sqn blokes lined up in front of their aircraft, you know, the Sqn Photo. These are all Crown Copyright. But if Jog Bloggs takes a similar pic when on detachment or something, copyright will be his.

The SnoBlos were not towed Chris, they were pushed.

Attached to the front of a fuel bowser these machines were pushed up and down runways doing an efficient job of burning out the fuel bowser’s clutch, creating flying chunks of ice and loosening and stripping off lumps of asphalt. Fun to watch though.

Really bad pic of the one at Brunty taken years ago on a disposable 35mm camera.

Where does this fit in with historic aviation?

Some quite laudable replies, and some a tad fanciful too.

Damien’s got the right idea, a ‘do-able’ project that has a ‘forgotten’ history and commemorates those that came before.

For myself, (and in the same vein), I’d opt for a fully airworthy Avro York, or a fully airworthy HP Hastings, to commemorate all those thousands – men and machines – that took part in the Berlin Airlift.

Outstanding effort Rob and Martin, all the luck to you. 😀

Haven’t been down lately entirely due to circumstances within my control (and some medics) but Malc has kept me appraised. Hope to see you soon though.

    Placement at MAM too . . . mmm . . .

Suggest 922 is good where it is. 😎

    WH964

Does anyone know what the current state of this aircraft is?

I too would be interested in the state/location/pics of this E.15.

Here’s a Michael Hall picture of it at an undisclosed airshow when it was on 98 Sqn. Pic is pre-27 Jan 1982 which is the date of its last flight.

Is there an airframe ‘wants’ list for the 125 that people could have to help?

    As it happens Dave, yes!

Could do with yokes for both the control columns. Prototype type units would be good but I’m told that for the moment, any 125 yoke type would fill the gaps. See cockpit pic below.

Also, but possibly rarer, a replacement for the pilot’s front windscreen panel as the in-situ is cracked and delaminating.

Another item has just been re-fitted (where do they keep getting them from?). Anyway, it’s the food storage locker. With that now in place, and the bar, this ‘frame is becoming quite a, snug little crewroom/cafe type place.

Another fantastic MAM restoration. This collection never fails to please!

You really should try to get up to MAM this summer Albert, I think you’d enjoy the place.

Are those her original colours when she was built, as I have never seen a colour photo of ‘RYB in her original scheme?

Mmm. . . don’t know you’d want to hear the answer mate .

As I understand it the frame originally had a silver underside. A pic of a magazine front cover has been framed and mounted on the forward b/head of the pax space (see below and pic #4 above). Don’t know if it shows MAM’s airframe or not.
