JohnH; got out the box with Seahawk negs and it looks to be a rather long sorting session. Can you help to narrow down what Mark, Seahawk (1-6?)Sea Hawk (WV838) would be?
Would be able to sort much faster that way.

Oh wow – thanks very much 😀

838 started life as a Mk.4 then alter upgraded to a Mk.6. Potted history of the old girl here if that helps – http://www.wv838.com/history.html

    All fingers crossed 🙂

That isn’t the location at White Waltham in that pic though, there is a video on youtube of its XA459s movement to WW.
I believe that is the Gannet that had a tragic ownership past

edit, sorry BuccSociety, just seen your post

Dont shoot the messenger – I just copied the link from Demobbed which says White Waltham 😮

    LOL:) It’s bl**dy frustrating isn’t it?!!!

I had (stupidly) assumed that XE985 wouldn’t bee too difficult to trace because it was part of the display team operated by 5 FTS for a while, so I though someone, somewhere must have photographed it. How wrong I was!

    Very!!

Was summed up beautifully when MAPS reckoned WV838 is the only Sea Hawk they didnt have a picture of – oh joy….. So armed with her known movements have been looking through pictures trying to find her lurking in the background. To date only one possible found and that was whilst idly trawling through airliners.net! I think WV838 is the third a/c down on the right – on the right ship at the right time with the right a/c number (182) and markings.

    Hi barnstormer,

My apologies if I’ve asked you this before but I don’t suppose you have any photos of Vampire T.11 XE985 do you?

I’ve tried for several years to track down photos of this aircraft in service without success.

As I said, sorry if I’ve already asked you (and for jumping in on someone else’s thread) but I’ve tried so many sources for XE985 that I’ve lost track to be honest! 🙂

    Thanks,

    Mark

I suspect pictures of XE985 will be in a box with snaps of my Sea Hawk (WV838) as that too has evaded all attempts to date.

The best I have is 2 pictures with what is almost certainly WV838 on but you can’t see the serial number to confirm.

In that case I apologise. There is a larger fuselage as part of this little collection (at least on Google Earth), looks like an airliner, are you able to confirm what it is?

    Could it be this? –

I always wanted to know what the Gannet was I could see behind a wall going around the ring-road in Cirencester.

    Thanks for the photo-plug……:D:D:D
I took that picture in August 2001 while visiting the Air Museum in Darwin.

Some pics also here, on pages 1 & 5:

    No problem. 🙂

I stumbled across it recently when trying to identify another one of these in a scrapyard.

The fun we would have with one of these at Speke…..drools As someone pointed out you could convert the tank to water then can be used to wash the aircraft on a regular basis!

Only two Skyraider AEW.1s exist in original form in the UK, WT983 in the FAAM reserve hangar, and WV106 which is the ex Flambards, Culdrose 849 display example which has always been displayed outside. Sadly it sits dismantled and left uncovered outside to the elements behind the reserve collection hangar.

    Oh dear…… 🙁

As a boy in early seventies i played at Staravia at Blackbushe, we found many control panels with instuments removed at the bottom of the dump , I have always wondered what they were from , can anybody help with this .

Post some pictures, then sit back and wait – simple! If you are not sure how to post them on here email them over and will happily post for you 🙂

I presume, Jon, that Salford University is not the same as Manchester University? – who are believed to have a Napier Lion VIIB.

    Roger Smith.

Wash your mouth out Roger 😉 Indeed, two completely separate instituitions. Are you thinking of UMIST perhaps which whilst a Uni in its own right had ties with Manchester? Having also been reminded recently of the stuff we drooled over at Liverpool Uni (Masters degree) I wonder what other delights are still lurking?

Salford University had a double mamba in the aeronautics department in the last nineties i remember seeing it on a tour round

There were some nice things there to drool over as students. 🙂 Wonder if the JP’s are still there?
