India defence is reporting that INS Ranvir “Kashin class” DDG is being fitted with 8 VLS Brahmos.

With 2500 Kg quoted for brahmos A, Su-30 can carry 3. The load capacity for MKI was 8000 kg if I remember, but that i guess would be pushing it.

USN doesn’t follow crap. They have as much chance of following a kilo as a kilo has of following the LA class. The LA class were even detected by the old godavari class FFG’s. If USN are not so wary of kilo why are they asking for it at every malabar ex.

Who says americans have not asked India for a kilo? USN has always wanted IN to use KILO class in the malabar series. IN is against this and only sends its type-209’s for excercises with foriegn navies, except russia of course.

I guess the air launched missile is meant for the P-3c’s. On what ship would the surface launched missiles go? Would they put it on the older type-21’s or can they be put on the chinese frigates pakistan is obtaining.

Hope they put in improved radars and sensors. I agree with jons on the issue. The reason talwar-II is being ordered is because the MDL has not yet delivered P-17.I know 2 will be delivered in 2006 but the rate is still slower than what russian shipyards can do. I don’t like the fact that Talwars have only 1 ASW heli, but then they don’t have to travel alone. I think they are usually coupled with another frigate or destroyer. I just hope that the IN orders the P-17a and MDL builds it fast enough. I know the Talwars will come with Klub, but what about P-17?

    20 meters? That would become a P-17.

Three more talwars with some specific modifications would be good. The 4 nilgiris in the IN are obsolete and will go in less that 5 years also the last petya, or has amini retired? Whats the status on P-17’s? Why are they taking so long. The BR pages on the P-17’s only speculated about the weapon fit. Does anyone know if they will feature Pj-10 or klub?

    Buried among mostly MRCA news.
..He is also set to confirm India’s order for three more Talwar-class guided missile frigates.

Looks like India will sign for 3 more talwars in dec.

Would brazil consider getting older F-18’s from USA? Rafale seems a lil costly and Su-33 and Mig 29K are STOBAR not CATOBAR not to mention russian.

I agree Brahmos would be a radical shift from their traditional suppliers. I see the possibility of malaysia, indonesia or thailand getting brahmos not chile.

Three more or 6 more P-17 variants would come in due course of time but not fast enough. So I guess the decision to go for three more talwars is not bad. The giri class frigates will soon be gone and IN needs to boost its numbers.

There is no way chines sub would make it to the coast of san diego. They would be detected and neutralized long before that. Why would a SSBn would need to go to san diego or anywhere near US?
