Me-109E, I have to say I side with you on this one. I’ve never seen such treacherous creatures.

Last time someone tried to get me to adopt a kitten, I had to say I was so sorry, but I didn’t have a bag, and there wasn’t any river nearby. The person didn’t talk to me for some time, but I couldn’t help it :diablo:

    HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! :D:D

It is the same seller who had the β€˜Dambuster’ Hercules engine relic for sale the other day:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130232637355&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=003

A least he withdrew the item when his error was pointed out last time.

Not the sellers error, was someone elses

It’s irrelevant what it’s worth – the owner must have a price in mind and it comes down to whether you want to pay it or not. There is little point in posting pictures unless you want to start a ‘gold rush’. My advice -buy first and talk about it later!

Thanks for the input David πŸ˜€

    Sore Subject This

I visited the beach where the engines remained covered by the sand since the 60’s, they were recovered and left on the shore line but the council said they had to be put back in the sea as the were ,’an eye sore’, I enquired time and time again but I was always told that they could not be recovered!

Funny how, ‘they discovered by Dick Berrie and his sons Thomas & Sam, from Northants, after the recent storms whilst on Holiday!

I hate the owner of the beach where these engines come from, just because a newspaper told a highly innacurrate story they were allowed to go to Barry Wallend, and are displayed outside along with his tupperware Spitfire!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I have been in contact with the seller, I even made an offer, he told be that ‘bidding’ so far stands at Β£27000!!!, he told me that a buy it now option of Β£40000!! will secure it!!
Below are the details he sent me:

Thanks for your interest. This 109F-4 cockpit section was found in
    Russia in
the early 90s. The serial number is unknown to date, although it
    certainly
is an Erla-built example probably from the 10000 Werknummern block.
    The
    project is about 95% complete.

    Description:

The cockpit is dismantled and unrestored, it has been bolted together
    for
the photos only. The only missing parts are the cockpit sidewall
reinforcements, the electrical panels, blind panel, cockpit floor cover
    and
other minor parts. The original parts included are:

-Rudder bar, original and complete with brake pistons & pedals GC

-Throttle assembly: original with push rods and actuating levers. VGC

-Oxygen system: regulator, ****, manometers & tubing. No mount. VGC.

-U/c indicator & selector: both original and GC

-Trim & flap wheel assembly & indicator: Complete system GC.

-Original canopy & windscreen; no plexi. Windscreen and rear part in
    GC,
folding part incomplete (hinge side missing)

-MG151 ancillaries and electrical parts including relay boxes etc. The
    cannon itself is not included.

    -Map case, Original VGC

-Armour : complete set, original VGC

    -Antenna mast, original.

-Seat & harness: original. 1 latch missing.

-Complete control column & base, including aileron lever and rare KG12A
    grip
    (correct type for the F)

-complete -and original- main instrument panel with gunsight: this is
    one of
only two known original 109F panels in the world. Complete with
    instruments,
including the rare u/c indicator, tropical filter lever, original u/c
release grip, etc, all original. Including original Revi 12D gunsight
    and
    mount.

The project includes also most of the electrical & hydraulics on the
cockpit: cockpit lamps, regulator, breakers, dimmer, IFF BG25 box,
    earphones
swich with cable & plug, etc.

Also included are many other parts, samples & hardware, like BfN
    normalized
    bolts & prisoner nuts, etc

After restoration this project would make one of the most accurate and
original 109F cockpits today, as even complete examples like the one in
South Africa or Canada do not have accurate interiors and none has an
original instrument panel, for example. The project would provide also
accurate information as to how the 109F cockpit is made -no 109F
    drawings
survided- or would be a source for -nearly impossible to find- parts
    for
any of the current 109F restorations.

Devon Aircraft Research and Recovery Team

Hi group, I am trying to contact anyone in the Thameside aviation society,
but there web page is well outof date, are they still about ??

I also wondered what ever happened to the old “Digs” groups from that we used to read about in the Battle of Britain “then a now” and the Blitz then a now ???? , seems you never hear of so many past groups, like Robin hoods
Devon aircraft research group, and some of the london and kent groups,
what ever happened to all that historically importanrt stuff they excavated in the 1970s when digging was rife ????
any one know or still keep in contact with old members of the groups ???
    would love to find out,
    cheers
    chris c:D

I joined DARRT in 1993 and went on a couple of digs and loved every minute of being part of the group, however as the years went by things slowed down quite a lot recovery wise.

Two other members are in this Forum HMS Vulture and BrewerJerry, the later being the authour of the RAF Harrowbeer book, and HMS Vulture being DARRT’s secretary.

Robin (chairman) of the group had his fair share of personal problems to deal with over the years, and everything recovered I think since the late 60’s/70’s is in storge, DARRT has a museum but I think things are on hold at the moment.

It would be nice for the items recovered to be displayed but as usual ‘TIME’ is always hard to spare as most of us have boring things to do on weekends!!!

Amongst the items in the collection are numerous engines/airframe parts and a complete Fairey Battle wing, the list is endless……………:)

The museum in question will not allow photographs. I may have some somewhere as I was there at Dymnchurch Redoubt when it came ashore.

Thanks, would really like to see the pictures if you can find some, I might be heading that way this summer and will have a look for me self πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

sad really when cameras are not allowed…….really glad Duxford does not enforce this……I’m thinking of taking some pictures of the 109 (1109) and counting the foot steps to the exhibit so that I can ask a gang to steal it for me……..:D

I have a piece Focke Wulf Condor spar which i got from the museum at Bletchley Park when the aircraft section closed down. This came from a crash site on Mount Brandon 1940. Also have a Pre Luftwaffe instrument fuel rate dial from a world war 1 Fokker D VII. Plus luftwaffe steel helmet.

WOW!! nice item, wish I had a piece of Condor!! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

The 109 or whats left of it does still exist in the Kent Battle Of Britain Museum, but it is a shadow of it’s former self.

It comprises two wings leaning against a wall and a couple of palletts of dismantled bits, that i could only see from a distance.

The Brenzett group took it apart to conserve and rebuild it, but over the years and complicated splittings and joinings of groups has seen it as it is, and where it is now.

The restoration managed to do a lot of good conservation work, which has I believe stood the test of time well but reduced it to a big Airfix kit, and who knows if all the bits that were raised are still with it.

Some bits were in excellent condition. It started off in the right direction but sadly ground to a halt, I am sure taking it apart was the right thing to do to conserve it as I am sure corrosion would have blown it to pieces eventually. Its seems odd that some of the best recoveries are normally a restoration tale of woe like the Loch Doon spitfire, I think they are just too big a project for small groups.

I would love to see some pictures of the 109 if you have some, the more the better!! πŸ™‚

The dimensions of the various markings on Luftwaffe aircraft are well documented. Are you interested in any types in particular?

Here’s some stuff to get you started: http://www.luftarchiv.de/index.htm?/flugzeugbau/kenungen.htm

Thanks very much for this info, it’s just what I’m looking for πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
