I have an Airfix Luftwaffe camouflage guide from years ago … and I’ve just had it returned to me by a modeller I’d loaned it to. It includes all sorts of interesting information including specific measurements for all markings.

I will check it out this evening if I can (BUT – I will also be packing to get off to Melbourne for the F1 opener!).

    Don

Would like to see the info you have ๐Ÿ™‚

Don’t know about ‘hard to find’, we seem to have been over-run with the things in the Stirling Project

Do you have any information on the Stirling rudder pedals that were given to the Stirling project years ago, that originated from the Lee Moor crash site down here in Devon.

I have inquired in the past with a certain member of the project and he said he would give them to me as the Stirling Project already has lots of pairs in better condition!

Please Please can you get back to me ๐Ÿ™‚

    A real wasted opportunity.

I mean no offence to anyone involved, but had this recovery happened today, we would have seen an aircraft restored to flight in a relatively short space of time, using a high percentage of original material.

I saw the fuselage being rebuilt some years ago. It was not to a good standard, and saw a lot of use of pop rivets and commercial material. I understand that they intended to have another go following this but dont knwo what happened. The wings are no longer with the project. I have seen them, and they would have provided a lot of original material to the right restorer.

    I second that Bruce!!

    Right,

I’ve had a tidy up, and removed all references to an outburst against NEAM.

Please keep the thread on topic.

    Back to the Gannet

    Sorry Bruce ๐Ÿ™‚

    Duxford maybe?

Not exactly preserved, I consider Davidstow Moor to be the best, it’s never been developed or ripped apart. It’s high on Bodmin moors in a desolate location and you really get a feel of what the airfield must have been like. the runways, taxiways, dispersals, tower and various other buildings are left exactly as when they were finished with. If your prepared for a hike you will find other buildings such as accommodation and the firing range.

Its a difficult question because where do you draw the line, here at St Athan it still retains it’s expansion period red brick buildings, hangers and airfield, but it is MoD and still used.

Here is a pic of Davidstow’s control tower, I have been researching this Airfield for ages now and have hundres of pictures documenting everything!!

As you can see in one picture you can make out the runway’s in the distance

Here are some pictures I took at NEAM earlier this year

Not sure on the identity of the Balliol, shame its outside!

The tail is off a Firefly and the cockpit was indoors and I didn’t have access to it for pics.

There is a Hunter fuselage currently resting on a trailer at G T Stone’s transport yard at Pool, Cornwall. Looks like a rescued fire dump victim, possibly from Culdrose/Predannack?

Haven’t had time to go rubber-necking, although it is easily visible from the public road.

Anyone know where it is bound for?

    SoG

Yep it’s the one from culdrose, it was on ebay a couple months ago, it’s a total mess!!:)
