I remember seeing parts of the nose cowling laying beside one of the hangars around about 1981-2. It was outside with parts from Hesses 110 (so I was told) and the Heinkel fin. The alloy panels from the 109 were corroding away fast. Parts of this aircraft were recovered I believe at the same time as the Heinkel 111 from Storvatnet lake.
I am not sure if the 109 came from the same lake, but definately found on the same expedition. I somehow thought then that it was a E model Andy.I have trawled (pun) through a few old posts about the lakes, Paul Mcmillan indicates that the a/c was a G model.
It seems that the wreckage from Duxford was scrapped owing the the severe corrosion.
Another fine mess, why oh why are items/complete aircraft recovered only to be scrapped?!
DH
DeHavilland??
Why not help insitutions such as the RAFM and IWM by donating all those Stirling / Hampden / Whitley parts?
Maybe they will scrap them!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously those cream teas cannot keep you away:diablo: that 109e crashed nr scorriton 7th jan 1942 after the pilot bailing at 12,000ft. Dont all jump off you seats to look as the site dug and hoovered up years ago way back in the early 1980’s. Supprised being the only 109 down that end it was documented, located and recovered years before youself
Can think of a FW190 in the shallow water down there which we was told off a while ago by a fisherman which hit land first and fell into the water, maybe thats the one you refer too? who’s into water sports for a quick dip as i dont like getting wet:D
I have visited the 109E-7 site and I can say it’s no where near scorriton!
I have one piece from this site (Very nice, will post a pic later:)), the site was dug by Devon Aircraft Research and Recovery team, and then dug again by Phillipa Hodgkiss
As for the FW-190, there is nothing left, it’s been investigated, some items reside with DARRT I think 🙂
Just shooting off an e-mail to the RSPCA….that is, the Royal Society for the Prosecution of Cat Antagonists…..
HAHA will look forward to seeing them :diablo:

As much as I enjoy the witty banter I thought i’d put my own input in as the seller of the item…..
I bought this item along with the bits of the column covering and also a few lumps of molten aluminium a few years back from Hooton Park aerojumble, from a guy who I have dealt with many times before.
The alu obviously shows signs of intense fire, the control column covering is burnt and brittle…. and no it is not cable insulation…. I do know a thing or two about aircraft with that being my profession for the last 15 years.
So this piece, maybe it isn’t external fabric – my mistake – but it is not a potato sack or any of the other silly suggestions. I have been on Hurricane sites myself and seen this exact same material come up, in fact I have some more at home.
Possibly fireproof lagging or it has been suggested to me it may be from the base of the control column.
Some of you people seem to think I grab random rubbish from wreck sites and sell it on to make myself a bit of money – I don’t need random bits of cash coming in thankyou, if I sell something it is what I say it is to the best of my knowledge – meaning if I have bought it from someone else i trust what they say…..Any ideas or sensible suggestions are welcome. My impressions of this forum since joining are rapidly going downhill…… I feel i’m being made out to be some sort of rip-off merchant by people who obviously don’t know me.
Mike
I Feel the same about this forum, haven’t been with the Forum long, and items I have sold on eBay have came under fire by certain individiuals and the funny thing is, is that the comments have came from people who sold me the items in the first place!
I have found that certain well known members of the historic avaition world have traded on their well known names to rip newcomers off
pm’d you
Good rant. 🙂
Cats are smart but I’ve yet to find one that can open a wheelie bin
I meant tear bin bags open if they are not in a bin
Correction – dig a hole, poop in it and bury it neatly. Now show me a dog that can do that. No, you have the follow the thing with a pocket full of plastic bags.
Correction- crap on gravel outside the front of my house (never buried)
With the notable exception of our neighbour’s Spaniel
At least Dog owners tidy up after their faithful pets
Yes? They’re warm. Besides I found my cat very useful for polishing the paintwork.
Mine preferred computer keyboards, books and newspapers while you were reading them. Best cure is worming tablet – they sulk for the rest of the night.
Told you they were smart.
Correction- they are a pain in the A!*E
It not that cat owners don’t care – they just can’t get the cat to do differently and have become a bit more chilled to the situation.
EH? Cat owners aren’t chilled, they are just like their Damm pets, out of sight out of mind attitude!!!!!!!!!!
Best advice, one I give to friends, buy a water pistol. It doesn’t do any harm but cats hate being wet and will learn to stay away.
I would rather shoot them with a real Gun:D

What do you mean, Me109E, that you “..have taken it up with the owners” ?? Everyone knows that cats do not have owners. They have staff.
Oh…and if anyone wants a ginger kitten we have several available in next couple of weeks…..just so long as you live more than several cats whiskers away from that dastardly Me109e….:)
Thats about right, they do have staff!!
Don’t bother with the neighbours anymore, if I find any mess in my garden i just throw it back over the fence and back into their garden, their pets, their ****, so therefore they can pick it up.
Threw some over the fence last summer and it ended up in a pillow case on the washing line!!:diablo:

Exactly. Our 3 also keep the bl00dy pigeons in check…
Me-109E – If you have problems with cat cr@p in your flower borders, may I suggest planting French Marigolds? Apparently, cats do not like the scent.
Since I’ve planted some, our cats go elsewhere! :D:D:D
Have tried everything, including the marigolds
I set squirrel trap yesterday and what do you know, caught one of the offenders!!!!!!!!!!
Took him to work with me this morning……. now he’s got a 50 mile walk home:D
Not going to stop untill all cats have gone:D:D:D
