This was given to me by a friend a few years ago. I was told it came from a Short Stirling with the squadron codes
A o AA, I don’t know the serial. The aircraft ditched off the dutch coast and was visible for a long time in which it was ravaged by souvenir-hunters. I once had a cutaway-view of the Stirling in which a panel just like this could be seen on the fuselage floor behind the bomb-bay. It seems this panel is one half of a door to some sort of hatch or locker in the floor of the fuselage. I don’t have the cutaway anymore and a while ago I also sold the panel on Ebay. It went to Holland so I won’t be surprised to find the buyer on this forum. Perhaps someone can shed some light on what this really is?Many thanks in advance.
Pete
Definitley stirling i have one that i picked up from a site in Exton

Well these did not sell and he didn’t reply to e mails.
he’s in this forum careful whats said
This do?
Looks like you can see the outline of the wing?
Down in a bog on Dartmoor, any truth…
Yep it’s true alright, have been to the sight and there are some pieces on the surface, deep detecting indicates lots of wreckage, however it would have to bee dug by hand due to the terrain.
What? Build some houses right next to an airfield and then expect the airfield to change/stop its operations? Surely not! That could never happen in this country? 😀
This is England after all, no doubt planning will be approved, and then the residents will complain about noise etc…………really wouldn’t suprise me if planning gets approved……..England…. not the country to live in anymore!
Come to think of it, I might have seen the paint remains of a swastika on that small piece:diablo:
Oh so original!
In fact forget it
I took some detailed pictures today of markings I found on the sections of the said sections in the mud
I WILL NOT be posting the pics now
Shall I watch e-bay? 😉
Yeah if you want, oh so you can see if it will pop up on ebay with a made up history?
It is certainly very close to Mount Batten where Sunderlands operated. It is possible that it is wreckage dredged up in the harbour – but would need more investigation.
At the moment, I can’t see anything conclusive to say it is a flying boat. The internal structure that I can see on those photos is not a Sunderland – you’d expect closely spaced Z shaped stiffeners as in the photo below.
It needn’t be a flying boat – I’d imagine a few raiders went down in the harbour. Anybody recognise any features?
If somebody who lives nearby were to drop by and look for part numbers, ask the locals where it is from etc, it shouldn’t take long to solve.

Sunderland internal structure:

Does that mean I have to throw back what I have already?:D:D
😀 I wouldn’t! what have you got?, please can you pm me some pics of what you have?:D would be interested to see what you have
Spitfire in the shallows off Perranporth in Cornwall, saw a photo years ago and it was recognisable then however, went searching last year……………
Found the location last year, its buried quite deep!, the MOD granted me a licence but the shifting sand has it covered quite well!! 😀

it was Coombes Head Farm, visited the site a couple years back, and found some airframe fragment’s lying around 🙂
A pic showing where the pilot’s seat is to be fitted. We are concentrating on the various frames which looks like we’re making aluminium bananas, but in a few weeks time all the frames should be finished and then the fun really starts..
Cheers

Truly outstanding work and an inspiration 🙂
Hi Me-109
For de Havilland aircraft CE in the part number indicates that this part would be from the engine controls.
CE1 = Control Engines.
Is this any help to you?
Interesting, the owner of the land in question has told me about 3 aircraft that possibly crashed on his land, maybe one was of de Havilland origin!
This is of great help to me dcollins and thanks for shedding some light on this find, have you seen anything like this before?
