The Kestrel was operated by a Tripartite squadron of UK, German and US personnel, so I guess this would be part of the German contingent.
many thanks that looks good!
I first came across Brian Ellisβs account of events back in 2010 while looking for details of his aircraft WJ223 for a profile after meeting him and Peter Davis at a signing in 2009
And after a quick search it seems FlyPast carried an article around 2001 by Rowland White – see link below on the subject
Chris, did you manage to establish the side code? Would make an interesting model subject (with a new Sea Fury kit on the near horizon!)
There were large chunks of TSR2 still around the test ranges in Essex at that time
Glad to see, I remember the first time I became aware of these was an article in a magazine about the Shorts and Lancaster stored outside
Fantastic to able to see two Shorts flying boats in one place!
Was a pity the B&B idea never took off, but that’s a good use of what could otherwise be a loss.
That’s dreadful. No doubt proofed on Word and spell checked that way
The G-1 became TP190 in the RAF and was scrapped after storage at Sealand with no 47 MU
Wondeful to see it conclude the Prince of Wales naming ceremony flypast today
It should go to …. π
I’d rather not see it incorporated on any replica or rebuild – it can be used at another Museum to illustrate Bomber Command, and indeed Coastal Command, aircraft in WW2. I’d really like to see it back at Lambeth, but failing that East Fortune or IWM North lack any WW2 BC exhibits
It’s interesting to observe the changes that have happened at both MOSI and Hendon since new management took over.
haven’t been to Perth for years, inspite of it being 30 minutes up the road – did you see their A109A?
Well, Britmodeller thread (<- that’s a clickable link, which is hard to tell on my screen) has an image from aft, but I don’t see anything on the rudder. And I’ve got a sneaking suspicion that you’re part of that thread. Still, it might refresh someone’s memory?
p.s. Isn’t the correct serial L4670?
Yes, i am and Yes, I can’t type! π
Just wondering if Air Enthusiast featured the 500 series. At the moment I don’t have time to look through mine.
John
Hi John, it does, but as referenced in the linked BM thread, no pic!
I was sure I’d seen it in one of the Putnum books, but no luck. It was (I think) a view of the starboard rudder showing the standard French ‘type above serial’ presentation.
Maybe I have false memory syndrome!
Dave
PS – does anyone know how to include a ‘quote reply’ option when logged in?
Mason’s books are good, but he did stubbornly cling to a couple of myths around the changes to the ml II airframe
Slightly scared that I knew the answer without looking it up or opening the thread!
