The most ridiculous things was deciding to put the RAF Museum at a site which wasn’t going to be an active airfield (Just because it HAD to be in London?)
Bit of a shame, you’d have hoped they could have had spare offices to accomodated the Airshow (even some portacabins) but I suppose in these times of austerity they have to make use of what they have.
Hopefully the Museum can be resurrected either after the Airhsow or in another location. It’s also good that they seem to be getting to keep their vehicle storage facility for now.
Certainly not Trumpeter but more like Matchbox.
No, they (and MPM/SH) did a waffle pattern! Thanks RJH!
Wing looked like this during this years open days, hope the Cosford camouflage guru doesn’t mind being appearing in a picture on this thread ! A very helpful guy and a mine of information.

Lovely picture that shows how a fabric covered geodetic wing looks – would you mind if I shared the link to a modelling page?
Inter-Museum loans happen all the time in most heritage sectors (Thanks to that, i was able to see all the surviving A4 Locomotives in one place) – the RAFM have loaned airframes out before (Oxford and Harvard to Newark, Shackleton to Mancheter, Swift and Hunter (?) to Tangmere, although I wish the Swift was still at Hendon).
I don’t have any great fears about this one.
They need less airframes to get the space for tables for corporate events.
And as a type, the Harvard entered service in 1938, so the Harvard was in active use for 78 years
Been retired a little while, went out without much fanfare for the longest type on the military register
No they didn’t. The undersides were the same as the rest: BS381C-637 Medium Sea Grey, which is what the Lynx currently are.
More details on paint schemes in my Haynes books on both subjects.
I’ll admit this was second hand, but that’s what i was told by the Airfix decal artist was on the paint shop instructions for the AsAC7 when they did their kit.
Hi y’all. Does anyone know the code for RN grey on Lynx please? Cheers
It’s BS381C 637 Medium Sea grey (Sea Kings had an underside of 626 camouflage grey)
they would think twice if hit with a charge of grave robbing that wouldn’t look good on their c.v
They would think twice if one of them hit a charge of RDX or similar

And a myth, as the photo of an early fighter with 4 Xs shows!
The change from roman to arabic numerals came in the latter part of WW2, when things started to get to XXXIV etc
Spoke to them today land has to fly as crew currency is already out of date which means it would take longer after the major to get started again
Wonder if any time could be spared to fly them to Canada to do a currency check on their lanc?
I was fortunate enough to see the Spitfire at the Planes of Fame airshow just shortly after Bob Pond acquired it. While it is always a pleasure to see any Spitfire flying I sure do wish Mr. Pond had left it alone! It went from being one of the most beautiful of airworthy Spitfires to one of the most “cringe worthy” with the “stroke” of a paint gun. Should the airplane ever change hands again it would be a superb tribute to Mr. Flack if it were returned to his “house” colors.
Mr Pond would probably have referred you to Mr Flack’s famous comment
