You need to check your dates/timings kontrol. The Nachtjagd diaries and the Bomber Command dairies have no operations that night. Bomber Command did a daylight on the 14th.

Either you have the wrong date/s or you’re looking for info re a clash between USAAF 8th AF – OR – whatever the English tactical command was called (I have forgotten for the moment, 2nd TAF or something?) – AND – daylight Luftwaffe units.

    Good luck.

HE177 if it can only be one.

But if that unlimited budget could be put to a coordinated action I’d love to see a line up of the WWII ETO heavies on an airfield somewhere. Stirling, Manchester, Lancaster, Halifax, B17 & 24, the HE177 & JU488, FW200. Was there a Russian heavy?

I’m following this thread with fascination and I’ve taken a look at your website Gary. Wonderful work, I am very impressed.

But I just stopped and thought for a second – who was manning the front turrets of the Lancs? Wasn’t that normally the Bomb Aimer?

    Thanks, Don

Straight over my head twice on that wee flight Friday.

And yesterday I had the privilege of a day in the tent at the Airshow. Fantastic stuff, wonderful aircraft and displays and in the presence of a number of vets.

Highlight of the show (aside from the obvious) a very impressive line up of de Havilland product as a mark of honor to the vets and their past comrades.

The Mossie is wonderful! We and WoW show were very lucky and are very thankful to all involved in letting it be here. Great stuff and thank you.

    Cheers D

    The Trigan Empire

Nice one Steve. I did a bit of googling myself yesterday and found it’s quite a cult passion … sci-fi and graphic art blogs all revering the quality of the series, for example rated well above the Star Wars saga. A huge tale of empire in beautiful colour artwork and inventive content … even if the plots were very B&W … bronzed goodies and BAD baddies.

I’m guessing but what you probably found (on eBay) is the edited Tales of the Trigan Empire (7 of 12 graphic novels edited down into one book) and they’re expensive enough (hundreds of $$$). I only found one place t(lost it just now) o get the whole saga = 12x hardback volumes @ 70 quid each. Ouch!

Is it this ? ( Ranger magazine ).

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_(magazine)

Actually the link’s a bit weird, you have to click on the first line where it says Ranger ( magazine )

( I’m a female with obviously too much time on my hands 🙂 ).

Bumblebee … well done to you too as it turns out. I’ve just had a look at that and it seems Ranger was merged into Look and Learn. And the Trigan Empire comic strip started in Ranger then came across to (or was restarted in) Look and Learn.

So well done! But the magazine I subscribed to was Look and Learn.

    cheers

    Look and Learn?

    YES! Inspired … well done!

I did a quick Google image search of “Look and Learn” and there’s “The Trigan Empire”. I’ll warrant that’s the graphic series I had in mind.

    Thank you.

The vid with the really spectacular stuff is actually footage from missile range cameras of radio controlled target drones being shot down.

The one of the B17 exploding, with engines falling off, props still spinning, is a good example.

    Anon.

I’ve seen that particular incident of the B17 … I always thought “holy crap, poor b’s on board”!

Where is it … a link anyone?

Well, it’s under the cockpit door, but for some reason I couldn’t see it being DL-T (91 Squadron) or anything else.

Good point … I didn’t think to apply the logic of likely squadron codes … slow day

Sounds daft, but I could not remember the squadron number for the life of me – yet could see “KL-T” from the picture! 😮 Cheers!

Better eyes than me … where’s the [K]?

Lovely aircraft, I’ve always liked them. I read somewhere that the 234 performed better (than the 262) on the jumos because it’s role allowed it to operate a steady throttle settings – whereas a fighter of course was constantly accelerating and decelerating (and the engines couldn’t cope with it).

I note in another thread here (looking for an image of a Do17) a link to Barry Weekley’s website – he’s an aviation artist. Page 1 features a painting of 8 234’s in formation. I’m thinking “no way” that happened. I know a number of aircraft attacked the Remagen bridge, but that would be in twos (SOP). I’d love to be proved wrong!
