Only problem I have with cigarette smoke is how long it takes to work (20-50 years). If it killed smokers outright in say a week or so it would be much more effective.
Yes Dave – both Turbo NZ and I remarked on this on Crazymainer’s “thanks to all vets” thread that (astonishingly) he created today.
It was a very moving day, the coffin was taken on gun carrier from Parliament to St Pauls for a service at 11am, then from there just after noon to the Carrilon (War Memorial) which is fair distance away (maybe 5kms). People lined the path all the way.
And as I said elsewhere today, I think it’s a tremendous thing that has been done. Not only does/did it act as a special commemoration this year, it will serve as a focal point for people who’s family or friends never came home.
I too can say I am truly proud today and I remember and give thanks for all those who gave their utmost for us.
You had me going there Moggy – reading the early part of the thread I thought “I know that plane” and if it’s not Europe then maybe it’s TB863 at the New Zealand Fighter Pilots Museum at Wanaka. But I’m completely wrong of course – it’s the white spinner and 4 bladed prop that got me going – have a look on the link below. But lots of other things of course don’t gel … silly Gnome!
Wow Neilly that’s impressive! And so’s that Moggy.
But back to the points, er point, what scale Neilly?
It was indeed very moving TNZ – I watched from the steps of Parliament. It’s a great thing that has been done and will help to keep the memory alive, especially for those who have lost family and friends without trace.
I’m sure you’ll find a lot of agreement for that on this forum today (and any other day I would say)
Have you come back – or just visiting?
Sorry to revive this, but I came across an interesting link and remembered Maple’s point above about the USAAF bombing Prague.
Here’s the link … it’s a month by month chronology of USAAF operations in WWII … you just pick a month and year.

Re. the Dresden raid, it says “461 B-17s are dispatched to hit the marshalling yard at Dresden (311); targets of opportunity are Prague (62), Brux (25) and Pilsen (12) in
Czechoslovakia and other (25)”
So it seems perhaps Mr Irving was right in part – yes Prague bombed, but not 40 bombers and not a mistake, rather a “target of opportunity” lucky them.
Anyone know much about Prague/Czechoslovakia’s circumstances in the war?
cheers, Gnome
Chill out both of you … the better point is that this election (the thread’s beginning) has been done and sealed. One way or another the US needs to cope with the perceptions of the rest of the world and vice versa.
And Iraq’s a bugger of a mess, I fear another Vietnam (dragged out unwinnable guerilla war). Both George and Tony have to figure out how to exit elegantly, they’re both thinking/hoping that democracy will be made to prevail but that just may not be the case. Arguably won’t matter anyway – look at Vietnam and China, both now “acceptable” parts of the world to western tastes.
Must go – remembrance day parade here now – our unknown warrior!
They were originally designed on goats udders … like I said, friends of Snappers’

Slow is as slow is … a friend of mine from my garden
Looks great – any idea what the other colour is (around the cowling and reaching back along the fuselage). Yellow? Gold? I’ll bet someone here is good at translating B&W into colour.
This sucks!
I got my ehat on ebay – it cost me $5m 😉
or a kilt!
