    Hi Cees,

So Cees what fun things have you been digging up 😀

    Cheers

    Rob,

A wet Halifax is on the cards in about two weeks time then another Halifax, two Beaufighters that collided and are now lying in the same field and a
    Bf 109.

    Something similar,

A few months ago at work (office job) a guy from the servicedesk comes up to my desk to replace my computer that is having trouble. He looks at my screensaver and says:Isn’t that a Halifax?

I was stunned 😮 😮 😮 and all I could say is: How do you know?
He told me that there are more aircraft around then the Lancaster. I liked him on the spot and he replaced my computer swiftly too.

    Cheers

Peter – practicalities aside I guess to be the ‘real deal’ a Lancaster/Halifax ideally needs to be aluminium – wood is best suited to Mosquito’s !

    David,

You are correct. Although the floor for my Halifax ….. project will be made of wood, the rest such as frames, stringers, skinning, brackets etc will all be done in aluminium and according to HP specs as much as I can. My friend who is making the Lanc cockpit is going ever further and wants absolute accuracy.

    Hurricanes in maine

    Rob,

Why not recover the three Hurricane wrecks in Maine, you have been talking about for a long time, first before you start on something much more difficult.

Would make a nice training project before hauling all those Axis beauties from Ghadaffi’s grasp.

    Peter,

Don’t know about that one but Jos and I have started last saturday with the preparations to build our Lanc and Halibag cockpits. Will keep you updated as the projects grow. First step………the bottom, will be laid within a few weeks time.

Yes, that’s the one I meant. But the name? must be because it’s so hot here that the brain becomes twisted and associates the need for ice with an Italian aircraft manufacturer 😀

Could it be the postwar Italian civilian four-engined passenger aircraft which had four fivebladed props. Caproni (Campini) something. I remember seing a drawing of one when I just started to get interesting in aircraft in the early eighties.

Sorry Cees. Our only Halifax that stayed here was scrapped soon after the war. Intersting though the centre section with midupper turret was intact for awhile? Wonder if its in a barn somewhere?

    Peter,

Fancy having a look around the area?

Joking aside, keep them coming, the Lanc is a nice aircraft as well.

    Hi Cees,

Some while ago, you were asking about who made throttle quadrants, iirc?

I spotted an entry in a prewar listing of UK aeronautical engineers for a company called R Tampier. They manufactured the “bloc tube” throttle quadrants, of which the Hampden and Halifax are examples.

I think Bloctube still exists as an engineering firm. A quick google may well enable you to contact them for possible help with drawings, etc?

    Regards!

    Al

(nice rudder pedals by the way!)

    Hi Al,

Thanks for the information, this is very useful and I will try to find out more. I also found out that Claudel Hobson made throttle boxes but no further information was found if they made the Hampden/Halifax throttle boxes as well.

If you ever have your camera handy in the vicitiny of your garage (you know what I mean 😉 ) could you send me some scans for reference?

As you can see by the rudder pedal photo’s I am very serious about the project and I will leave no stone unturned to find that elusive Halifax throttle box 😎 . And only to think that in one of the early FlyPasts, one was offered for 65 pounds, and a few years later another one. Where would they be now?

    Cheers

All that is left from LV907. Suppose they had the foresight to save her intact instead of cutting of the nose-art. That would make a fantastic sight being displayed next to S for Sugar (the Lanc in this case, not W1048)..

    Alas.

    Elliott,

He mailed me yesterday to let me know where he is working now. Would you believe it, he works just one km from my house. If he hasn’t contacted you just PM me.

    Small world

Very nice indeed, in fact he appears to be your man to build your throttle box too?

And to think about sixty miles away from me and about sixty years ago, preparations where underway to dismantle and scrap on site hundreds of these fine aeroplanes. 🙁

    Andy,

Where is a timemachine when you need one.

Does anyone know where Bas Kreuger is these days? He was at Aviodrome but I tried to call the other day and none of my old numbers worked.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Elliott,

Last I heard that he worked for the Army Museum at Delft, but that was already some time ago.

    Cheers

    Cees
