And in 50-60 years it’ll be “Give me a good old-fashioned jet over the plasma-lightdrive…” no?
The plasma light drive is ok for a runabout but it lacks the character of the old timers and jets are far too noisy for me, I prefer something that doesnt keep me awake at lunchtimes and besides if I do happen to be around in 50-60 years time I would like some hearing left and not blasted out by some glorified parrrafin blow lamp:rolleyes:
I probably wont be around in 50 – 60 years time, besides they will be doing me a favour – noisy ‘orrible things anyway.
Give me a piston engined propdriven aeroplane anyday, much more civilised!!!:p

I was browsing earlier and came across this image of a couple of scrappies taking axes to a lancaster wing.
THESE MEN SHOULD BE SHOT!!!
are we involving larger aircraft? if so DC3 ZA947 flew as David lord A/c when he won a VC at Arnhem and PA474 flew as AJ*G Gibsons a/c on the dams raid
Does anyone remember a B29 taht was recovered from an icy grave, a documentary was made about it. If I remember right the project was just about complete and the day before it wa due to fly off the ice the APU caught fire and destroyed the airframe. Is it available on video or DVD?
just watched it and was well impressed with it, well done to all involved! Does any body know of the fate of the other aircraft in the Glacier? Are they still there? or were any more airframes or bits recovered?
If I was to own it myself then I would like a Chipmunk for the simple reason I had my first taste of aviaton in one and they are simple to fly and operate.

A genuine 109 would be nice of course as would a Battle of Britain veteran Hurricane…….:rolleyes:Or…….
An original Fw190 or Bf110 would also be nice too or an original He111, Ju87 or Ju88 from the bomber stable.
But if I had just one choice it would be a MkII Lancaster with the Hercules radials just to see if it handled any different to the Merlin powered machines on just to hear what it sounded like.
Plus it would make a change from all the Spitfires/Mustangs that are saturating the warbird movement
Or how about a Gloster Gladiator or for an interessting challenge a Gloster E38/39?
I,like Dez will wait until viewing before I pass comment. That said I am truly grateful for the ‘little ships’ as my grandfather was on the last boat out of Dunkirk before the Germans overran. If he wasnt so lucky I would not be here. My grandfathers life took an ironic twist as 36 years after he was rescued he returned to the beach he was evacuated from as part of the Dunkirk Veterans associations visit there. He later had a heart attack and died there. A few years later he appeared on the cover of the partwork ‘Images of War’ issue 1 which featured the Dunkirk evacuations.
I’d be off like a shot but unfortunately my bank account wont llet me have the $1400 for the privelige!
Never mind theres always the lottery.
Apparently the pilot was grounded for three months after that stunt on the carrier
I was involved in a dog fight with one in the words biggest fighter the Nimrod MR2P with Sidewinders back in ’84 whilst visiting one of the squadrons at Kinloss. Managed to get a trip on one of the ops when they were on exercise. It was amazing!
