Wow…. what a marvelous display of aviation skills by Mr Hanna…. its a shame this program is not put out on dvd. You would think in a country where this fighter plane is held in such high regard. This program would sell on the dvd aviation market ! Why keep it in storage in some dusty warehouse ?

BlueNoser352 here : Had a marvelous visit there years ago to the base …having know so many 91st BG vets here in the states made the time I spent there so special. The 91st BG had a great part in the air effort over the Reich in WW II, men like Robert Morgan pilot of the Memphis Belle made many trips from its runways in attacks on Germany. Very nice effort by those who built and mantain this fine tribute to all who came there and served in WW II. Long live the memory of the 91st BG !!!!

    Jon:

Thanks for the notes & photos & map you’ve supplied here..really helps many of us gain a better understanding of the route and location of the attack. Not much reaction time for these crews to see the target and attack it. Do they ever hold any sort of memorial gatherings during the anniversary of the attack ? BlueNoser352 says thanks for the great historical notes here! Have a good day Sir!

Jon: Thanks for the comments Jon……. hope one day to see this location for myself ! I thought the producer did a nice job of getting some great vintage resources together for this production ! I first read about this years ago in an issue of ‘After The Battle Magazine” ! The shots of Te Sismore through the years was amazing to see, a talented man for sure and his comments really added much to the production. I spoke to the director of the documentary over a year ago , delighted this production made it ouf for public viewing . I beleive he came to the Uk to show the documentary…. I believe he tried to locate the member of the resistance who was being grilled by the Gestapo and escaped when the Mosquitoes hit the building !

Very daring plan for sure and much sadness about the chlldren being killed in the school and the loss of men on the raid … I take it the building ( Shell House ) is still there ? The book ” The Gestapo Hunters ” is a really fine book on the efforts of the Mosquito crews to rain down some major hurt on the Gestapo ..with these low level raids . This and the Amiens Raid are two WW II topics I enjoy researching and reading about here on the forum.

The comments by Mr Sismore are most touching when he speaks about the comments he heard from the parents of the school children lost in the raid ! Very powerful indeed and speaks volumes to me about the kind of man he was. Thanks for your information you gave here…… good stuff on the attack !

Maybe if some of our readers live in Copenhagen they could take a few shots of the building and memorial and post it here…… would like to see them ….!

A closer view of the B-24…. always like to see stories on here about nose art and art on flight jackets…. feel free to post any of your favorites here . Maybe the new Eighth AF film under development will bring forth more interest in A-2 nose art flying jackets and nose art on aircraft . Hope so !

    Thanks

The Eighth AF in the UK !

Now this sounds like a great topic one I have read as much as possible about and of course spoken to many Eighth veterans in my country over the years. Was this a local production or sometime the BBC did ? Hope someone would be so kind as to record it and put it on Youtube if possible.

Hopefully with the 70 th anniversary coming up next year of many key dates in WW II history… like D-Day , Market -Garden , Battle of the Bulge etc…we will see a new wave of documetaries on these event with a fresh prespective.

Over here I have read in the some industry movie publications that Hanks * Speilberg are working on a new film project about the Eighth AF. Looking for more to come out about this effort for sure.

Work in the TV news business myself and could someone explain to me this “Freeview Channel 19” deal. Is this a public access channel in a certain region of the UK ? Hope the BBC has some more WW II efforts underway for the 70th ! Thanks

Did actor Cliff Robertson once own a Spitfire ?

To piggyback off this most interesting topic …at one time I thought I read here that actor Cliff Roberston once owned a Spitfire. He came here for a visit back in 1994 to my town to promote glider flying . Talk to him and he had a great knowledge of WW II aircraft. Perhaps I am mistaken on this..just wondering and figure someone here would know .
