Brilliant shots there how long did it take you to get too Malta? and was there other planes there from England?
James
3.5 days to get there and 2 days to get back. We took a scenic route down. We had to be over the Giordan Lighthouse at 12:10 local on the Saturday. The rules are here:

There were 2 or 3 from England. One was a Mooney and the other a Commander, G-TECH. Longest distance flown was a Swedish Robin DR400 from North of the Arctic Circle. I think fuel prices and the fact that Italy can be difficult to fly through and the shortage of GA airfields with 100LL make it a bit daunting.
The guy that won it this year has won the last 2 years so he knows the score. We were good for our first attempt.
Fancy trying it?

Nice way to spend a Sunday
Same day, on the way there, different perspective.

Those comments that Fluffy has posted, serve as a fantastic reminder to those who helped the Dutch 60 years ago,and show the high regard that the RAF have in Holland.
It’s nice to see that we in England do something right, that the rest of the world look on in envy.
Ken.
England? There were 2 Scotsmen running the Major maintenance on PA474 at Coventry which helped get the aircraft to the big reveal and to Holland on time. A large majority of the groundcrew that worked on the Phantom during the war were also from Scotland. I think British would have been more appropriate.
Ok, I’ll have a quick go at the four ‘mistakes’:
1) The aforementioned missing dinghy hatch marking2) There’s no repeated code letter on the side of the nose
3) The camouflage pattern over the rear fuselage looks a tad non standard, the green areas look a little too close to eachother.
4) The City of Lincoln motif wasn’t there on the original
Anywhere close? Oh ok…:(
Your entry has been recorded. We will be in touch.
Alright gloves off there are 4 mistakes a prize to the winner but you have to get all 4 to claim your prize.
A Ltd edition booklet entitled “The Flight at 50”
Get Al Pinner and Ron Clark to sign it then the magnifying glasses will be out.
Something is wrong, but what is it??? :diablo: However it was to late to put right
Jackattack is not allowed to answer. If you can find me at Dux on Sat I might explain.
Thats the main one. You could include the one we discussed before the big reveal today. You would have to be good to spot that one.
The Lanc camo, roundels and stencils etc were applied using a set of original Avro drawings that we have on the flight the code letters / artwork are worked out by using original photos.
One for the roundel police: Here are some of the photographs we used for reference. You will see that some of the letters are not standard (can you tell which ones?). The aircraft is representative of the original scheme as best we could within the slight differences between the original aircraft and 474.

Just watched the footage on Look North ,and it was very impressive.
What time did she leave Coventry,as I was in the Leicestershire/Warwickshire area around lunchtime?
Ken.
18:00 Wednesday 25th April.
What a fantastic day great coverage on the BBC, showing the nose art early made no difference to the event at all,so no more arguments please!!!
Agreed. Great day for all involved with the event. It went extremely well. PA474 out with 36 hours to spare before the event. As OC BBMF said, there was no plan B. My plan B was not to turn up and move to Argentina if the Lanc wasn’t out in time.
Have a good time in Rotterdam this weekend.

Most of the the team involved

Shame about the nose art being shown. If you were following the threads you should have realized it was covered for a reason.
FM213 is down for winter maintenece simliar to PA474 but not as in depth. She has had a rebuilt engine fitted in number 1 position and some heavy work on number 2 and I think the ailerons were off also.

Can you pm me re the gennie with pic and part numbers might have a line on a couple?
Generator fixed so she is ready for inspection tomorrow. If she passes that, she gets a Flight Authorisation Certificate and will be ready for airtest. Unfortunately, the weather looks poor for Tuesday so it will more than likely be Wednesday.
Fingers crossed all goes well tom.
I know its a chore workin on a sunday but its appreciated by many people. 😉
A top effort by all involved.
Air Atlantique/Classic Aircraft Maintenance have been working without a break since the flap tubes were fitted. BBMF are working every weekend from now until October. I know they read the forums and your comments are appreciated.
Thanks
Col
Watched some of the engine runs and flap tests this afternoon from the airport perimeter she looked (from a distance) and sounded stunning.
Is she running again tom at all?
Unfortunately yes, she will be running again tomorrow. A generator failed today and she needs a few more engine adjutments. Luckily BBMF have a genny in stock so that should be on its way to Coventry. Ground runs are needed to test them out. I would think late morning to midday if all goes well.
Is FM213 grounded for some reason then?
Routine maintenance I would expect. They asked me for some mainwheel tyres a couple of months ago as they have run out so we (disposals) are selling them 4 (not my idea, MoD policy to protect the taxpayers money).
Its not painted over I believe it is covered with black fablon
It is the painters masking fablon painted over with the temporary paint. I am assured by Sprayavia the artwork paint wont come off. The artwork is very good. The one in the office was a quick demo and not representative of the original. John the artist has used his talents on a scooter belong to Noel Gallacher from Oasis if you want some trivia. He painted the A to Z of London front cover on it. Jerry the Sprayavia supervisor thought the finished Phantom looked like John without hair.
