How did the trip go?
Makes no difference, what Brand and Ross did was disgusting and your decision to support them is concerning.
Where, in this earth is my support in this post?
What they did was reprehensible and indeed disgusting. Ross especially should have known better, he has had years of BBC experience now. He is usually extremely entertaining, especially on the Radio on Saturday mornings. His sexual innuendo is hated by some (But they accept it from the likes of Graham Norton!!…..but that’s OK ‘cos he’s a minority gay!). I find Ross amusing and entertaining. Ross is also a decent film critic, although I haven’t seen him doing that for a long while.
Brand is (Was) tolerable, more as a stand-up than on Radio but he was well below the belt on the trick that cost him his job. He too should have known better, he is intelligent and presumably knew the limits of Radio 2 (I wonder if he was on Radio 1 there would have been any fuss at all?). At least he went with honesty and quit, not like the female controller who swerved and ducked until the enquiry made her go.
The anger in my post above was that 30,000 plus people complained about something they had not seen and thus were not actually offended. Even if they went on YouTube and watched it later, they have no right to complain as they sought to be offended. The anti Brand saw a chance and capitalised…and won.
The only complaints that actually mattered were the two real ones, and Andrew Sachs very own.
The Beeb can easily replace Brand, (If they can get Dylan as a DJ they can get anybody!) but they would be hard pressed to replace Ross in the short term.
Why can’t the same 30,000 people get complaining about the 40% rise in Energy prices!! Or petrol, or water…..all of which are ACTUALLY and REALLY hurting the good people of the UK.
But that smacks of anarky and real trouble, mustn’t get involved!!

Story:D think he is well messed up!
Story is not deemed as fiction. It has latin roots in “Related to History” and is generally an account of events. This is the Oxford opinion. The far far lesser Websters may have the incorrect opinion.
The post below mentions Das Boot. IMO the best war film ever made, but anti war? I think not.
The english dubbed version of Das Boot managed to remove 90% of the tension and atmosphere of the film. Don’t insult yersen and watch it.

But, the films above are just sad stories from Wars. Not actually anti war, or is my preference for sorting out the bad guys clouding something?

I think you will find that most decent human beings had no need to pretend to be offended, making prank phone calls to the elderly is rightfully frowned upon in society and borderline illegal.
Yes but, the true complaints totalled 2. (The actual complaints following or during the show at Broadcast time)
The rest were treating it as if voting somebody off Big Brother. They knew that mass phonings would get at Brand out. He is hated or loved, the haters phoned in for a lark. There is no phone number for praising, I’m sure that would have had 30,000 “Votes” to keep him.
Yes, he was a n**head for telephoning the Grandad of his conquest. It would have been even worse if she wasn’t a stripper and didn’t sleep with him!

Not just money, but workshare.
Collaborative arrangements to enable industry to flourish in the host nations. “We’ll buy some but we want 20% workshare to ensure we have X,000 jobs created” Similar to the export market, more and more sales are dependant on offset. “We’ll buy some but put some work in our country”.
The other form of offset is to sell Country A some military kit, our Government reciprocates by buying “Stuff” that Country A has plenty of. Al Yamama is a prime example. UK Gov. gets cheap oil from Saudi as payment for the Tonkas/Hawks and everything else. UK Gov’t pays BAe the cost of the stuff…at BAe cashcow prices. It’s a good earner!
IIRC “Finlandia” electric goods (Especially TV’s) flooded the UK in the late 70’s and 80’s. That was as part of an offset deal…but I can’t remember what it was we sold Finland.
Great place…reminds me of a cross between Scotland and the Pacific Northwest (Washington state, Idaho, British Columbia) of North America.
While you’re there, pop over to nearby Keswick and see my friend Peter Nelson’s Cars of the Stars Museum…great fun.
I’ve been there. Are all those cars the genuine article?
He sells autographs too doesn’t he?
As for Windermere, there are several easily walkable (No severe walking / climbing gear needed) trails to some of the low peaks. Pictures from up there will be good, unless the weather is bad………in which case wait 10 minutes!
Bowness on Windermere is a nice town and you can catch the paddle steamer from there (The “Teal” I think it’s called).
There was also a Steam powered boat on the lake.
If you go to Bowness, have a meal/pint in the Belsfield Hotel, and then work out how they cut the massive hedge on the Front lawn. It’s 4 feet high…..but 60 feet thick. (I know how they do it).
I believe it is presently snowing there, not sure of the forecast for the weekend, I’m nearly 300 miles away and our local news doesn’t carry Lake district news. The present snow was mixed with sleet and has caused flooding, hope you are alright for the weekend.
I don’t know where you live now, but the lake district has the softest water on the planet. I’m from the North of England, and I was blessed with having Lake District water “On tap”. No limescale, nice taste and no fabric conditioner needed in the wash. Here in the South, the water tastes like battery acid and puts limescale on everything. (I’ve bought a gizmo that fits in the pipe and stops 95% of the limescale…it works too).

I think this is probably a publicity stunt gone wrong, With Russell Brand having a new TV show coming up and all that, And lets be honest all news good or bad is advertising.
Yes both are clearly pathetic and Ross in particular should have known better, But remember this show was not live but a pre-recorded one, Which begs the question why was it still broadcast?, And i think the answer is publicity by controversy and its worked its on all news shows and has even come up in Westminister today.
Personally i feel both should apologise and both should pay a large amount to a charity of the Sach’s families choice, And the BBC should also cough up money for this as one of there producers allowed this garbage to be broadcast and led to the whole situation getting out of hand.
Totally agree with all of that.
And as the poster above says, I wager that >90% of the complaints were anti Brand/Woss types jumping on the bandwagon rather than actually being offended.

This is very impressive work, dude. Like others, I will certainly look at this in greater detail later, perhaps this weekend.
I don’t know if you’ll pardon me for saying this or not, but, dude, you need to get out more 🙂
Blimey.
I’ll let you experts check the details, but I agree this is an outstanding piece of work. More interesting and better explained / presented than MoD reports (And the few DoD ones I’ve seen).
Planeman, why did you do it, just as a hobby or is it towards some academic achievement? It’s superb.
