Out of interest was this the fastest subsonic airliner? I always thought it was the Convair 990?

    That is the Coronado.

I think the Tu144 and Concorde may have been just a little faster.

    They don’t count.

No, not luxury seats, just widened economy class style seats and no fancy meals or free newspaper, foot massage etc.

Although you just gotta love the airlines. The food in Business is just as much glop as in Economy but apparently it partially justifies the huge jump in airfare. It just comes in a ceramic dish as opposed to a piece of tin foil. I always used to take my own snap until they started x-raying it. If there is a good restaurant (rare) in the departure lounge, I take food from there. 😎

What’s wrong with X-raying food? Or are you saying they confiscated it.

As for food, the bill of fayre in first class is way ahead of glop.
Business class is generally better than cattle. Like you I fill up before departure as there is never enough food served on an airline portion anyway.
And those cups! I drink tea or coffee in pints!

Why isn’t it a recognised holiday? Is it because “Australia day” is a new idea by the anti brit lot?

I suspect that there were a number of the military, diplomats and politicians on both sides of the Atlantic determined to find a way of finishing the unfinished job of the First Gulf War.

WMD became a tool to do the the job and then a red herring. Extinguishing Saddam was always the key objective but because this could never be overtly discussed neither could the post-overthrow plan be discussed.

The venture was doomed from the start and the aftermath inevitable. Having said that those deep seated critics never believed that Iraq in 2010 would be the nation that it is. It is imperfect but the lives of its people improve by the month and it is no worse a democracy than dozens of other democracies.

A fair judgment can be made on Iraq in another 10 years.

Everybody I worked with at the time (In the MoD, DoD) knew we were going in to finish the job and kill off the idiot. We couldn’t understand the need for the spin on the 45 mins etc. apart from the fact that we don’t like to be seen as over-throwers. So, lies were made up in order to sell to a delicate and PC brainwashed public. If we had Churchill standing up and demanding the head of Sad Huss then it would have been fine.

    The last of the Cartwrights…
I never realized how popular Bonanza was outside the US until my college Swedish language textbook mentioned the show…
    RIP.

    RIP.

Bonanza, was compulsory viewing for me. IIRC it was on Sunday afternoon.
