The first time I went to Duxford, before the IWM took over, was for a sprint meeting in, I would guess, 1972.
Believe it or not, Davidstow Moor in Cornwall was used for Formula 1 races in the very early fifties. It didn’t catch on, not least I suspect as it’s quite a long way the other side of the middle of nowhere. The runways and peri-track are still largely complete to this day. It’s too far away to be worth digging up for hardcore and the soil underneath is only marginally better than the concrete.

What are we going to do without our resident wordsmith?

Look after yourself Kev, and we look forward to seeing you when we can.

I’d be interested to read it, James.
I know very little about it except it was designed, built, tested and certificated in about 10 minutes as part of the contract.

Coming from the M11 you get stuck northside.
It happened to me and I wasn’t best pleased, especially as by the time we were parked it seemed halfway to Cambridge.
Robbo says if you ignore the signs you can get into the west car park, but the blurb says you have to turn left when leaving.

Seems longer ago. I must be getting really old.

I agree it’s far from being the most attractive DH aeroplane but what do you expect from Colonials. 🙂

There are times I wish I was a 9 stone weakling instead of a 15 stone ditto. 🙂

According to the 2004 Collins road atlas, there’s no northbound access at J9.

Didn’t have a wide angle lens with me. The enormity was all over, not localised.

There was one at Legends last year. To be generous, she was somewhat on the large side, or more accurately, b****y enormous. Suffice to say the Bristols didn’t match.

Definitely not here, and AFAIK, one has never flown in the Northern hemisphere so not even near here.
    Over to our Antipodean department.

Particular Intrest: British and non-major country aircraft

Non-major country. Should we be offended?
