We should be in there.
Moggy, you may find you don’t need to go looking for our tame American. He’s a subscriber to said organ.
Bump, again.
Even I should manage to be there by 11. Assuming I’m not stuck in a queue halfway up the M11, that is.
Current plan is still Saturday, subject to weather forecast.
Bump
I personally wouldn’t want to see a picture of the original wreckage.
However, unless somebody’s got one, it’s a bit late. There’s a pic of the fuselage in, I think, this month’s Flypast at Aviation Assemblies (?) on the Isle of Wight. It looks like a Spitfire fuselage.
There was a post some time ago, (WarbirdUK?), saying there was a substantial amount of reusable structure.
Fuselages only of both Fireflies were in Hangar 1 on Sunday. In the few minutes I was in there I heard the most complete one identified as a Tomahawk and a Barracuda.
Not “I think it’s…” but statements of fact.
Feverish actiivity around the P51C on Sunday.
Read into it what you like.
Babs was the car that decapitated Parry Thomas when the drive chain broke. It was dug up by Owen Wyn Owen (suspect he may be slightly Welsh) in the mid sixties and restored over many, many years.
I think the Goodwood sculptures are stunning but like many others I’m not happy about priceless exhibits being displayed in that way.
Steve, don’t forget your Flypast card.
I was there yesterday afternoon. Apart from the usual external residents, all I noticed outside were the Vulcan, “Grumpy”, the Rasta Cat and a Phantom that somebody’s tried to get into a garage.
Having not attended a post or pre show gathering before, where is the Red Lion? I presume it is near the airfield.
Dave
Turn right out of the site along the A505. Cross the M11 and it’s around a mile on the left. It is visible from the main road, and signposted, but it’s down a side road that leads to Whittlesford Station.
I was there for an hour or so, too. A lot of activity around “Princess Elizabeth”.
Both Fireflies in Hangar 1 at the moment. “Grumpy” out on the flightline.
Saw Charlie Brown pursuing the HAC Hurricane back into the hangar, but I don’t know if it had been flying.
Interesting – thanks. The DB is somewhat smaller capacity is it not?
No, substantially bigger. Can’t remember exactly without looking it up but somewhere around Griffon size, I think.
How much fatigue life does ‘474 have left? I understand she was re-sparred a few years back as part of what was termed a ‘mid life update’ !! That should give her at least another 40 years.
Willow
I think following the re-spar with current usage the Lanc is expected to out-live oil. 100 years was mentioned somewhere.
IIRC, a couple of organisations volunteered to restore parts of the Hendon Halifax, and started to do so, before the decision was made that it would be preserved, not restored.
I agree the restored turret looks out of place, but it would be a good exhibit in it’s own right if a tatty one could be found to replace it.
All the times I’ve seen that Halifax, and pictures of it, with the turret looking wrong, and it’s only just dawned on me that it’s actually got a turret so it must be an early one. If I picture a Halifax in my mind, I always think of the fully glazed nose.
