Hardly fair. Rob had nearly arrived at 5 to 9, having driven from Plymouth. At that time for a major airshow, I wouldn’t expect to sail straight in but it should be plenty early enough for a minimal queue, not 3 hours.

Nige, i think part of Rob’s beef was that he was already at J3, so why did he have to go to J4 to come back to J3 again.

If anybody’s got an answer to that it’ll be a lulu!

Amazing how often things are worked out here from various sources, spread around the country.
Gnat display at Donington was somewhere around 5pm, at an educated guess, so return Oxon area probably around 5:30. Does that fit?

Reid & Sigrist were indeed based at Desford. The only other aircraft they built was the RS.3 Desford, later converted into the RS.4 Bobsleigh for prone pilot research. I wonder what happened to the RS.2. They were mainly instrument manufacturers.
I wonder if AJ Jackson really says the Snargasher was scraped, not scrapped? 🙂

I’ve often wondered if the Sigrist was Fred Sigrist, formerly TOM Sopwith’s right-hand man. Unusual name, can’t be many of them about.

It’s a Hind. I assume it’s the Shuttleworth one as I don’t know any others. At least, it was supposed to be a Hind.

I hadn’t seen the two Gnats together.
I’ve got a couple taken on a 3 megapixel point’n’shoot which haven’t come out too bad. I’ll tweak ’em and post them later.

I wasn’t there for Wings & Strings, just the RR event.
It was a good day. The display changed a fair bit from the list.
The first was a South African Airways 747. Limited airspace at Donington but I see what the comments from the Duxford display last year meant now. Flew in from Jo’burg yesterday on a scheduled flight and was going back, last night I think.

I saw the model turbine-powered Vulcan up close there. I think the whole cockpit area is too big and that’s why it looks wrong. Similar sized Valiant under construction too.

IIRC, the Nazi swastika is really a hackenkruez (sp?) which is a reversed swastika.
