Slightly OT, my dad did his National Service in whatever tank regiment was at Catterick in 1946/7 and was asked to stay on as an instructor. I can’t remember if a commission was offered, I doubt it, but I wonder how different my life would have been if he had stayed.

It can’t have been the uniform that put him off as he did about 5 years as an AA patrolman, 25 years as a policeman (speed cop) and died at the young age of 58.

Had Pelforth Brun years ago in France when I was trying to find something other than lager. When I started I thought I’d found what I was looking for but by the time I got fairly well down the first glass it was getting a bit sickly. Found 1664 and thought it was pretty good.

I recently read that in the 6 weeks prior to the Battle of Britain, de Havilland changed the entire fleet of Spitfires and Hurricanes over to constant speed propellers – one of the reasons that ensured we arent all speaking German now….

Kimberley amazed me when they introduced Classic – 4.8% ABV, zero taste. I didn’t know it could be done at that strength.
