My skills don’t come close either. It’s seeing models like that that make me painfully aware of my limitations.
As a related aside, since they re-formulated plastic cement to stop the young and stupid from rotting their brains by sniffing it, it doesn’t seem to work very well.
Any recommended brands, either tube or preferably liquid?
Could it be Duxford from the south side of the runway looking west? I’ve never been there but thought it might look a bit like that.

I see your point but I don’t think so. I went around there a couple of times in the early eighties when they were charging entrance by the car and I was on my own.
I hesitate to say definitely not but the foreground trees don’t look right and the background trees look a bit too close, although that could be a telephoto lens effect. I was going to say the parked aircraft were too close to the western end as well but I think I do remember aeroplanes there in the past.
When I started typing this I was pretty certain it wasn’t Duxford, now I’m not so sure, I’ve just talked myself out of it. 🙂
The Hinxton Red Lion is the one that wouldn’t let us in after Becka’s forum meet.
We decamped to the Red Lion at Whittlesford Station and have been going there ever since.
As Moggy said, a feeling of utter helplessness.
Having no children myself, I can’t begin to imagine what Dan and his family and friends are going through.
Desperately sorry.

I’m fairly confident I’m right in saying pilots were allocated for fighter/bomber training on the basis of their aptitude for one or the other.
“Flying in combat in the Battle of Britain” I took to mean in a fighter. On that basis, despite the acknowledged bravery and skill of the bomber pilots, I don’t think they would have been particularly successful in that role.
I can’t see that picture being taken in Matlock. There aren’t any cooling towers within about 30 miles.
IIRC, there’s a chap that calls himself NC900 has recently joined the forum. I wondered what it meant. I suspect he may know something.
Thanks for posting those Lynn.
As you said, compared to the rest of the destruction this doesn’t really matter.
Bent and battered but not destroyed looks a reasonable summary.
AFAIK, we’ve only had one hurricane in the UK in living memory, which I managed to sleep through, and the devastation was staggering. I suspect that was a strong breeze compared to what the Gulf Coast has just experienced. We’re always complaing about our weather but we don’t get the extremes. I can’t imagine the ferocity of a storm that could shift the Alabama.
Cor! Brownie points! First one to mention the aeroplane.
Like Moggy, I thought ATC straight away. I didn’t notice the cooling towers until Ian pointed them out. An easy mistake to make, it’s not as if they’re big. 🙂
Kansan may have a point. Power stations are often built some distance from big towns or cities but there are some cooling towers right next to the M1 between Sheffield and Rotherham.
I think the current plan is we’ll be there Saturday.
Last year we attended the September airshow and, with hindsight, concluded we should really have gone to the end of season one in October. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do both yet but would people agree this is likely to be the better of the two?
I immediately thought Mk1 Escort too.
Is that a fence or are the wings a trifle abbreviated?
Porthole on stbd rear fuselage forward of the turret. Bigger ‘turtleback’ for dinghy stowage or larget oil tanks (can’t remember which) removed from the British flying restos anyway. Better arrangement of engine and other controls in the cockpit (kept in British restos) Paint and pedantry.
That’s from a thread in December 2004. Visually the only difference on the two UK flyers has been the porthole.
The Bristol-buiilt Blenheim Mk.IV was originally going to be called the Bolingbroke. Production switched from the Mk.I to Mk.IV part way through a contract so to avoid confusion the Blenheim name was kept. Canadian production retained the Bolingbroke name.
Differences are minimal between a Blenheim Mk.IV and Bolingbroke, control runs, an extra window and more bulged turtlebacks (rear of the engine nacelles) IIRC.
JDK described the differences on a previous thread. I’ll try to beat the search engine into submission.
I have them both delivered, driving into Chesterfield to the nearest newsagents that stock them is as pleasant as having a tooth extracted. 🙁
Big b*gger, innit?
