They had the telemetry readings for last year. That’s no use at all. The track was resurfaced and after complaints about grip levels the surface was cross-hatched with a diamond cutter. Apparently this caused a serious temperature rise on the fastest part of the circuit.

The teams had no choice but to withdraw. They had it, in writng from Michelin, that the tyres weren’t safe. If they’d raced and somebody had been hurt they’d have been taken to the cleaners.

There’s no doubt that Michein caused the problem but I can’t blame them for yesterday’s fiasco. They weren’t in charge of the race.
I understand Michelin have no racing presence in the States and no other current F1 circuit has banking. If they had access to usable recent data my opinion may change but apparently they didn’t.

Mosley in particular is blaming everybody except himself. Ecclestone said he tried everything to get the teams to race. Brilliant – come and race on dangerous tyres.

It’s time those two cronies disappeared completely.

    Henlow for BoB film ?

I saw the collection lined up for BofB at Henlow but it doesn’t look particularly familiar.

However, I did see it in colour. 🙂

It’s so long ago now I’m only really left with a mental impression, rather than clear memories.

It’s the only one I’ve ever seen there but I’m not a frequent visitor.

I’ve wondered several times what the connection was supposed to be but never had the presence of mind to ask anybody.

Is that the pole-mounted Spitfire FSM from near the Craner Curves at Donington?

That makes a minimum of two of us, and I suspect quite a few more.

I’m not sure of the exact details but I believe the Lottery funds were released after raising a certain amount of the matched funding, not all of it.

I feel it my duty to do so.

You see, there are some misguided souls out there still genuinely expecting to see it flying at airshows next year.

And there’s at least one misguided soul here that’s sure it won’t.

Of course I’m not privy to your information that BAe (or whatever they’re called this week) and Marshall Aerospace haven’t a clue what they’re getting into and they’re wasting their time and money. Perhaps you’d like to impart this knowledge to them. I’m sure they’d be grateful.

Alternatively, they could always apply for a HLF grant and put it back in the air! 🙂

Never miss a chance to have a dig, do you?

We already know you “know” XH558 will never fly. You don’t need to keep reminding us.

Does this include gliders? Otto Lillenthal made a few good flights I believe, and didn’t George Cayley as well ?

Cayley’s coachman, IIRC. He resigned – said he wasn’t hired to fly new-fangled flying machines.

I agree. As a fan of Clapton for far longer than I am prepared to admit to, I’ve been avoiding responding to the previous comments.

There was a similar thread a while back…

Legends 2003 (Ithink), the Flypast lair. Bloke sitting behind me, every time his wife mentioned Sally B, with increasing unpleasantness he said “that’s Pink Lady”. Finally Sally B taxied out and behind me “I wonder if Sally B’s going up too?” I pointed out there was only one B.17 there, it was right in front of us and as it said Sally B on the nose in big letters it was a fair bet it wasn’t Pink Lady. Very peaceful for the rest of the show.

I’m sure I’ve come out with my own fair share of inanities, but fortunately I can’t remember any of them. 🙂
