LesB’s pic of the B(I)8 does look very much like the one on E-bay, has anyone contacted the seller to see if there is a date on the tag?
John.
Scrub that, have e-mailed him and waiting a reply.
50th Anniversary of the Shackleton Mk.3 entering RAF service.

Something about those Avon’s:D , always remember when they did a low flypast at Binbrook or Finningly to the tune of 10000 car alarms!!.

If I could buy it I would, and I would remove every last piece of graffiti from it; anyone who would consider this air @rsehole form of vandalism, as art is beyond me, (God I’m getting old).
The graffiti is not the issue with this airframe, it was all the souvineer hunters that robbed, stripped, tore and dismembered as much as they could without any respect for her.
This is common theft and is a damn site more disgracefull than a bit of spray paint, lets not forget that if any of this mindless vandalism hadn’t happened in the first place then maybe she wouldn’t be the lost cause she is now.
John.
The ‘ownership’ I think by now would be quite disputable, when A1 Comercials went bust they would have claimed all assets when they went into receivership, who was she sold onto then?.
Does she go with the land? and does the current owner/user of this land also own her?.
I quite agree that scrap is all she is worth but like I have chimed before, she needs to be sympathetically dismantled as there are a lot of usable spares and display items that can be salvaged.
Once finished the fin complete with graffiti should be saved as a monument to the history of this machine, an exibit that would go well at a local museum.

John.
What does the future hold for her now?, the council should hold some common sense and see that she is gifted to a museum close by that will at least keep her safe.

Yes the WAAF….hhhmmmmm:diablo: now take yourself to a dark room!!!!.
The weather does not look good for the weekend, only sunday has the possibility of broken cloud, hope the snag on 728 gets sorted.
Would love to be there and see 904 shake things up a bit but alas a weekend of nightshifts are all that I have to look forward to:mad: 😡 .

So, my complete Vampire for £2750, or a bit of a Lightning for £3500. Both similar condition, i.e. need work.
Which is the best deal?
🙂
Bruce
Sorry Bruce but Lightning first time, every time:D .
John.
Zf582 nose section with EE certificate and full form 700, mint and totally complete down to the stop watch, and complete with a modified 28Volt bus, to power it all up, fetched 5.5K 2 years ago.
Nice to hear they have found a stopwatch for as when I sat in her last year they had a mock up one fitted, and the lighting was excellent she was sat in a dark corner of the hanger so you really did feel that ‘live’ Lightning feeling:D .
John.
Simply perfect!, the composition and content of the shots are simply stunning and the soundtrack is perfect, what is it?.

Nice little montage but the transitions are to fast, 1/4 of a second per pic is not enough time for my brain to process the information;) .
John.
Just a general observation, when it was last sold it had a load of instruments and the ejector seat with it and also the complete history of the machine which one can asume is the form 700.
All for the princley sum of 3.5k, I was a hare’s breath from bidding on this very cockpit but the wife mentioned something about kids and roof over heads!!! .
In the new sale all this is either missing or he has neglected to list these items, this is starting to become a very expensive cockpit, a shame really as I dream of the idea of owning such a thing one day.

John.
I guess if you’re lucky enough and know the right people, you can get yourself a flight in a UK based two-seater (including the ARC machine), as the videos below prove:
Paul
You really can take an instant dislike to some people:D 😀 .
Honestly that chap looked like he had the ride of his life and would never forget it, I am off to sit in a corner now and turn a slightly darker shade of green;) .

John.
From the tone of the last few posts I think people are getting concerened about the cost being prohibitive, IIRC the flight in a Lightning at Thundercity is in excess of 6k and there seems to be a healthy supply of passengers.
I for one would agree that 1500 to 2000 would not be an over excessive amount to charge for a back seat in a Spit, and as for it being a second rate experience to actualy flying it solo then one should consider the costs of actually doing that!!!!.
I think that a back seat in one of the two seaters would be an experience that would be unrivaled in this country, the smell, sight, sound and feeling of being carried skyward in a spitfire would make even 2k sound pathetic.
John.
Oh dear, its XM144 again.
Can’t point you to the previous thread as it got deleted. Nuff said.
.
Whats the story there then?

John.
