Does anyone else find it nauseating though that something as significant as this sign should be paraded on eBay rather than donated to the museum? Surely anyone with an ounce of interest in aviation heritage and history would make sure it’s displayed in it’s rightful place.
Better be quiet before I say something I shouldn’t. 😡
Nauseating? I think the word is an understatement!!!, It is clearly apparent that this persons interest in aviation heritage can be measured in grammes not ounces and his interest in money out weights the damage/pain inflicted on those who have rightfully donated these items thinking they would be on display for future generations to come.
Lets hope that the awarenes brought about by this thread will ultimately result in these items being returned to their rightfull places of rest, Ok enough ranting, best give my boiling blood a rest!!!!!!.
Very good article, I look forward to seeing the mighty jet airborn.
The article states that the airframe was road moved from the port of Immingham, Has anyone got any pics they could post? it would be interesting too see as ‘Ming’ used to be an old haunt of mine!.

John.
Welcome aboard.
Some very good photos there. A few with camera shake. It looks like they have a seriosly impressive collection there.
Wouldn’t you shake in the presence of all that fantastic machinery? 😀 , Nice pics, shame about the lighting which makes it difficult for even ‘top end’ cameras to get a good shot.

John.
Thanks Phil, Always nice to hear from someone in the know!

That is an impressive pic of the F15 but I am sceptical on the idea that it is supersonic  .
The pic shows a common phenomenon that happens during the transonic region of flight, The aircraft is not supersonic but the air travelling over the wings is, this in turn causes compression and a reduction in pressure producing a shock wave of condensed vapour.
This effect is also known as compressability which produces the sonic boom effect, prior to the actual supersonic boom there is an audible ‘thud’ as the sonic shockwaves build up in front of the airframe, this thud is often confused with the boom.
Hope this helps 😀 😀

To confirm all suspicions I have definitive proof of date in the history of XG326 the Lightning in the second pic, This was a P1B, part of a batch of twenty airframes ordered for various trials.
This particular airframe was used for radar development, including aspects of weapon system aiming trials at Boscombe Down.
It had a short and usefull career before being dismantled by 60MU and stored, Before being used as a target at PEE Shoeburyness she was transported to Horse Guards Parade during June of 1968 for the 50th Anniversary of the RAF.
This information has been gleened from several books, the most notable being Lightning, The Operational History by Kev Darling and of course all credit goes to them.

ERRRR!!! WOW! Is that PS or genuine?, I find it hard to believe that the French authorities allowed that one to happen. 😉
I am trying to imagine what the tour guide on the bus was saying—-“And if you look to your right we will be passing the…..OH MON DIEU!!! JE BESOI MAMA 😮 “
John.
Some might say that the E E Lightning was not the ideal candidate for a weapons platform but that didn’t stop em tryin 😮
