one went ‘bang’ by EOD…. as to the other….. I went looking – no longer around I think
opps… missed the button!
These two from the collection
I hope I cause no offence by posting this picture of Hilli taken at Salisbury Hall around 1984. I’d got their Molins 57mm gun restored by our apprentices here in Peterborough and we took Hilli there. He brought with him a nose plate from Mosquito HX903 which he was flying when they took returned fire from a U-Boat they hit with 5 shells from their Molins Gun.
as they say ‘I wuz there’
Got over 80 trannies of the dig etc
I’ll scan a few when I got time – there’s a good chance it was a ‘friendly fire’ incident. Somewhere in the loft is all the paperwork – the props went to Tony Agar up in Yorkshire.
I think there’s a C-Class or two there as well
Now that takes me back to Southend!

Well worth the watch – great stuff!
Article/letter and picture in the current edition of the Dan Air Staff Association newsletter – to see if we can stir up any interest!
I imagine that honor might belong to the C-47/DC-3, as surely there are still a number of military arms using them. The B-52 might be the first to 100 years of service with its original operator though.
Cheers,
Richard
My money would go on this… after all, the only DC-3 replacement is another DC-3!
Also, I recall reading somewhere, (probably Air International) many years ago, that a Phantom fan was trying to collect photos of every Phantom ever built.
Anyone else recall that…and know if he was successful?
I thought Bob Dorr was the supposed Phantom guy. I got some cartoon/stickers he used to hand out somewhere.
Assorted Gnats, F-5s and a DC-8 in Hot Shots.
Viscount noses in the scrapyard scene in Con-Air (mentioned in a thread somewhere else regarding the C-123)
Well done – and GREAT videos!
I recall a BA 747 – with Prince Andrew on board. Missed approach at Heathrow, diverted to Prestwick where the weather went out too so declared a PAN and scraped it back into Luton in minimal weather ….
I’m not arguing, but I’m surprised they could get a 74 around the corner by the Britannia hangar – or didn’t they?
