People have been charged by The Jockey Club or prosecuted by the RSPCA for less.
This equine is deceased: please stop hitting it.
Tom, may I be so impertinent as to ask what your professional area and your academic experience are?

Well I’ve vo… No, hang on, that’s simply crass and embarrassing. I think everything’s been said.
    RAFM, please don’t do this.

I have to agree that I think that this would be a very good idea for the ‘Milestones’ hall which always felt as if it would be better suited to The Science Museum’s remit. There’s a lot of knocking of RAFM at present, feelings run high understandably. I think that what has been done with the Grahame White hangar and office is excellent. I will reserve judgement to see how the centenary and post-centenary displays turn out until I see them.
We all have our ideas of what should be on each site and where, that’s only natural. We shouldn’t lose sight of our blessings in this country, we have so many wonderful collections and museums, this allows some to present in an ‘old school’ way while others that have to dance to a different tune do things a bit differently. I remember Hendon when it opened, I loved it then, but that is getting on for half a century ago. It has got better and worse since, I hope it will get better again.

There is a possible ‘long slog’ option if all else fails. If you can get to London the British Newspaper Library will have volumes of contemporary magazines. It would be a case of picking a few likely publications and just going through them. If it was a centre spread that will make the search a bit easier.

If it were my choice, and it isn’t, I’m one of those who would like to see it at YAM. it isn’t the IWM exhibit that it was. What would be a nice idea would be a bespoke audio visual bomber ‘walk through experience’ showing all of the crew station types including the gunners.
I hope that IWM do have a suitable plan for it in place.

Yes, not quite aviation but maybe of some interest, the Ruskin Museum in the village has the new sponsons for Bluebird along with the original spars that connect them and some original outer skins and the wrecked Orpheus engine on show, with some interesting supporting material in their Bluebird Wing. There’s a wrecked Merlin from (I think) a Halifax outside there, too.

I was up there two weeks ago. Really nice display it is too and fantastic to see some of the fine work that you have done.

I put all of my loose change (and the kids’ ice cream money) in the sponson.

The Merlin was indeed Halifax, an HCU MkV if I recall correctly, and an undercarriage leg is up at the memorial. Got me thinking, are there any preserved Dowty legs anywhere else?

    Well worth a visit.

Does anyone know of any references or records for the V1s? I’ve never had any success looking for them at the National Archives: probably looking in the wrong place.
I’m particularly interested in any details of one that I am told came to ground at Redbournbury.

And there’s this Bf 110 too (was this the famous “Stop that Polish chit chat’) moment from The Battle of Britain after a raid on Vauxhall Motors? http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?94996-Messerschmitt-In-Bedfordshire-Barn/page3
I’m sure that I’ve seen instruments purporting to be from this plane on eBay.

Completely agree with Maple & Ant. The records need to be cross checked in instances like this, for example, which aircraft does the ORB mention for these Ops?

As an example of strange entries in official records I have a copy of a movement card for a Whitley which has an entry that clearly states “Lost at sea”. It went on to have a very useful career at an OTU after that!

It must be four or five years that she has been sat there in what is a very exposed position at Fairwood. The sea air and winter weather can’t be doing any good at all.
    Such a shame.

Many thanks for the up to date photo. Such a shame that it has been sitting out there for so long now.

Indeed it would be nice to see one in its original colours.
Having said that, seeing them in their Battle of Britain film schemes is also appropriate to me, given the impact that the film had on the warbird scene it isn’t an insignificant part of the Buchon’s story.

‘their faces can’t be seen in the photo’ but a facial recognition expert (?) says it’s definitely them…

You have to smile, even if ruefully.
