Could it have been the the Ireland based DH Dragon, thats bigger than the Rapide and has squared off wings.
No typeo $4.5 Million far a Mustnag D,
it was some US War Bird site, I cant find it at the moment I did save it but as my hard drive has blown up I cant retreve it or anything else that was on it, all gone forever, including my web site I was putting together 100+ pages completed, 100,000’s of words all typed in by hand in HTML…
the word b 😡 ll 😡 cks.. said shouted along with a string of other four letter words.
Saw a Mustang for sale in the States the owner was asking $4.5million from what I can rember the ad read “Very Rare North American Mustang Fighter, Merlin Engine, New tyres and fully Airworthy with current CofA”
Mustangs are 10-a-penny in my view so the asking price was far far too high,
But on the same web-site another Mustang was up for sale at £3million but…
This was an Allison engined Mk A completely stripped down and ready to put back together, apparanty the bloke had been working on it for 10years he had the money to finish it but he lost his PPL after loosing his health so had to sell, every part of the aircraft had been X-rayed if it needed replacing a new part had been built it was repairable it had been, the engine had been zero houred.
At least three of the B17’s all flew in to Southend for painting, one of the airports leaflets ahs a small photo of the airport on the back showing them parkerd up with a Belfast taking off over them!
Corsair166b, I am recording them for a mate so if you want me to run off a copy for you just let me know, and once the tapes full Id make a copy for you too.
but dont tell anyone…
Yep very enjoyable, some nice footage and he even gets to fly 727’s next week
At least he had the guts to go for it, how many of us would have the balls go go for something like this, yes we knew the aircraft was in bad shape, but at least this guy did try to save her.
How many time have you seen an aircraft waiting to be scrapped and thought I’d like that but never even asked if you could buy it or save parts from it.
We should not be slagging this bloke off, he had a dream and went for it, we all dream but most of us are too chicken to make a grab for them, he did sadly his dream failed but what if his dream came true, what if he did move the aircraft and get it set up in the pub, you would all be great bloke this great bloke that.
He wanted his own Vulcan we all want our own but that will never happen leave the poor bloke alone at least the cockpit and engines are going to be saved if he had not bought the aircraft odds are the entire aircraft would be scrapped cockpit included so at least 391 will continue to live on.
There is one under restoration to flight in the US I beleve its an Ex-United machine
Mildenhall one year a US Air Force F16 was about to take off when the American Comentator siad
“You are about to witness the most thrilling most amazing display of aerobatics by a jet fighter ever”
The F16 powerd up and took off a feww passes later it landed and taxied back in the American comentator
“Well that was truley stunning, we must thank (what ever the pilots name was) for what was a dazzling show of US air power”
The next aircraft up was a Dutch F16, thye cDutch comentator came on the PA and said
“You are about to see the most thrilling most amazing display of aerobatics by a jet fighter ever”
The Dutch F16 blasted down the runway and as soon as the gear begain to retract he cranked the fighter hard over and through the aircraft over every square inch of sky possibly not leaving the boundry of the airfield, upon landing the Dutch guy said
“Now that was amazing”
The crowd were clapping and cheering, the American comentator was rather quite after that…
Norwich 2000
Quite a nice line up what with the Invader, vampire, Meteor Mustang formation but…
very little static even the Cessna 172 I arrived in went on static! the stalls were miles from the flight line and the display was very disjointed, with acts displaying between scheduled flights.
Mildenhall 98 (I think)
Three Tornados Two Alpha jets, two F16s and quite a few more dubling up of types all got a bit boring.
