My computer recently sufferd a total hard drive failure so I up-graded from win98 to XP when I attempted to install my digital camera software windows warned me that it would cause XP to become unstable so I am currently unable to copy photo from camera to computer but…
There is one on airliners.net
I’m not paying for it so I dont care about the cost, its 60 parts one a week that means it should be finished next year in time for the blokes 85th, he is still very fit and walks a good 5-10 miles a day never smoked and only rarely drinks booze.
The garden is bigger than a football pitch and out in the sticks so even if he dose fly or attempt to fly it and it ends up as match wood nobady is going to get hurt, not unless they are trespassing on the farm land that surrounds the hopuse and garden.
The land has been left fallow (is that the right word) so even the farmer dose not both to go on that part of land, so where is the problem.
I beleve it is currently in Norfolk still waiting to be exported to the USA for restoraton to flight.
This was the ex-Southend machine.
No it was Ivor Noclue
Well I’m doing it and not paying for the thing!
A mate down the pub wants me to build it for his Dad who turns 85ish next December (2006) he was a Spitfire pilot got shot down twice! and lived to tell the story about it.
He dose not intend to fly it as far as I know but will taxi it arround his very substantual garden.
The sad thing is looking at the plan both the Victor & Shacleton will both be throw out into the cold again adter thoer restorations are complete.
Might as well not bother and scrap them both now, as in 5-10 years time they will no better off as they are now.
The Valiant is at Hendon not Duxford soon to be chopped up and sent via Royal Mail to Cosford never to be seen again as it was lost in the post.
Ex-crew member of XB261 told me, also read it somewhere but the ravages of time and beer have taken thier toll on the old erm…er… the thing in the head…the brain.
I’ll look through a few books to see if I can find anything.
Look at any photo of 261 and you can see the Canadian Maple Leaf on the nose so it must have been out there for some reason unless it was a secret covert ops mission!
The last flight of XB281 was from Boscombe Down to Southend on Friday 8th October 1971 it was mostly operated with its Clam doors removed for para drop trails, it was also reported to be the only Bev to fly accross the Atlantic for cold weater trials in Canada, which is why the maple leaf was stuck on the nose.
Would that be the AE&EE or what ever it was.
If so would’nt the aircraft have been XB261 the Southend machine scrapped in 1989 cockpit to Duxford then on to Newark
Its good for those people who cant afford to go and pay out £150 in cash all at one time on a all in kit spreading the cost all be it more over a year or so will help these people, you may be paying more but if people have not got the cash to spend all in one go this is one way they can get into the hobby.
Once complete take it down the local model flying club and I am sure they will be happy to teach you to fly it.
Tempted yes can I afford it not really will I do it cant say yet… could always go and sell my body any takers….
