I had my car stolen by them – all on security video. I knew it, Police knew it but proving it was another thing..
If there are any political types reading then I think someone could win an election if their only pledge was “Same as usual on everything else, but I’ll rid the country of pikeys in 24 months…”
Would get my vote…
My Se5 replica has a Nescafe Coffee Jar lid as a mock radiator cap. Not sure if its depleted or decaffeinated…
😉
still has a 1002 and its for sale – the staggerwing is new though…
TT
This is where I go “small world”. That aircraft (Nord 1002) was based about 20 miles away from where I live in Buenos Aires and is now located 20 miles away from home in the UK.
I was chatting to an old Argie mechanic who was telling me how it came to only have one wing. So say they stripped it for some work, and while it was in that state, local gypsies broke in and stole a wing. The owner visited their camp and offered a “reward” for its safe return but the wing had already been smelted down. No doubt they got about $5 for the metal..
Criminal.
Anyway…
There are wings available in France, so should still represent a nice little project for someone.
Funny old (small) world..
whats the difference between the 1101 and the 1002?
Well the 1101 was developed from the 1000/1001 and has a nose wheel, the 1002(Me108) has a tail wheel. The canopy is also different and it has so much dihedral on the wings that you’d be sure the spar was broken!!
🙂
Would that be Jim Hardie’s example that has just flown in Scotland?
Moggy
No thats an 1101, its the Nord 1002 that dresses as the Me108.
Having said that I think we’ll see both an Argus engined 1101 and at least 1 (maybe 2) 108’s. Glen Lacy has the 1101 and the 1002 being rebuilt with Argus engines (I think he has said as much here himself). Also the ex Walton machine might be destined for an engine exchange but we’ll have to wait and see. Both owners have the resources and the motivation so lets keep our fingers crossed.
Point taken. There are some things that just have to be I guess. I didn’t realise the Argus was notious for being sensitive, in what way?
Well never making TBO appears to be the main complaint. Although one experienced view is that its because of how the engines are used. Most of the current airworthy Argus engines are fitted in the Storch, and people love to show how slow a Storch can fly. This results in high power settings/low forward speed meaning that they get cooked..
I’ve heard 400 hours and that an overhaul might be c. £25 – £30k.
Its still at Booker but with a new UK owner..
In fact put Shoreham airshow in the diary (16/17th Sept) as I think we’ll be “attacking” as a two ship – should be lots of fun!!!
Would love to do it but I think its a £60,000 conversion. Also the Argus has a reputation as being a sensitive lump – the plan is to buy one and put it in the barn for “one day”.
The Lycoming may not be original but you push the button and go, parts are available and its quicker / more efficient. For those of you with a craving for the original then I think we will see an Argus engined example in UK skies before too long..
The 108’s CofA is limited to the Utility Cat so you simply can’t do them, not possible, not allowed.
However I have been told of a man in the USA who rolls loops and spins his to his hearts content…
The FIAT is still based at Booker I believe.
ooops sorry….
Any help??
What do you need? I have enough paperwork to get an example on a Private cat CofA. You can guess how much that is!!
PM me what you need….
Looks like he’s been rear ended… snigger snigger 😉
Why on earth wouldn’t you pull the “Game Over” handle on that F15?? Amazing flying…
Come on – lets get something historic on here quick. Mods please don’t move this, it could become a good thread….
🙂
