Police hold soldier suspected of faking his own abduction

    By Roni Singer-Heruti, Haaretz Correspondent

Police arrested Wednesday evening an Israel Defense Forces soldier, 19, suspected of falsely reporting that he had been abducted.

On Wednesday morning police went on high alert following reports on the infiltration of a would-be suicide bomber to Israel. A few hours later a soldier told police that he spotted in Herzliya a vehicle that matches the description of the car allegedly used by the terrorist.

A short time later a soldier called police, said he was being kidnapped and hung up. Police received yet another call some time later from a man who presented himself as a civilian, saying he had seen a soldier being forcibly taken into a car at the Herzliya train station.

Following these reports Tel Aviv District Police also raised its alert level and roadblocks were deployed across the Tel Aviv area. After no suspected vehicles were spotted by the deployed forces, police became convinced the report was most likely false.

By Wednesday evening police managed to track down near Haifa the soldier suspected of giving the false reports. He was arrested in the town of Zichron Ya’akov.

Upon his arrest the soldier told police that he had indeed been kidnapped and was taken to the nearby Arab town of Fureidis. But after being questioned some more it emerged that the soldier made up the story about his abduction.

He told his interrogators that before leaving his army base that morning he stole a beeper and used the information transmitted to fake the abduction story. The soldier said that he did this in order to get the attention of his superiors after they ignored his requests for help with personal problems.

IDF fighter jet crashes during take-off in Negev; no injuries

    By Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondent

An Israel Air Force fighter jet crashed late Wednesday while taking off from an Israel Defense Forces base in the Negev for an operation in Lebanon.

The pilot and navigator escaped from the aircraft without injury.

Initial IAF investigations indicated that at one of the aircraft’s tires burst during take-off.

The jet was laden with weapons, and the additional weight made landing more difficult than usual.

The crew followed procedures by ejecting themselves from the aircraft. The jet crashed without causing injury or substantial damage.

The F-16I (also known as the “Sufa”) is the IAF’s newest fighter jet. Israel purchased 102 of the aircrafts from U.S. manufacturer Lockheed Martin in a deal still in progress. The average cost of one jet is nearly $70 million.

This is the IAF’s first crash involving the new model, and the IDF’s first accident since the beginning of its offensive.

IAF General Elyezer Shkedy has appointed an investigation committee to determine the cause of the crash.

Seems the myth of professionalism and invincibility is fast disappearing from Isreal forces.

DHAMRA (ORISSA): India on Sunday test fired its most advanced intermediate range ballistic missile Agni-III but it developed a snag and fell into the sea off the coast of Orissa without hitting the target, defence sources said.

They said the missile went up vertically to a height of about 12 km before the snag developed. The sources attributed the problem to a “design failure”.

Officially, there was no confirmation of any problem, with a spokesman confining himself to a terse statement that “the missile took off successfully” at 11.03 hours IST. He said “the flight performance” was being analysed by the mission team.

Sources in the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which developed the missile and launched it, said complete details of the test-firing would be known in “a day or two”.

The testing of the missile has been repeatedly put off since November 2004 for a variety of reasons, including once for technical problems.

A design failure means the program has suffered a severe blow and now back to drawing board, effectively putting years behind.

Well great game indeed. But we have to agree that this World cup is full of surprises. Non one of the expected result turn out to be as expected. Brazil going out, Mexico, Neitherland, Spain, Argentina and now the Host. I guess there is still one big surprise left during the second semifinals… Its too close to call but the only thing that could be said (wishful thinking ) that the match does not go into penalties. Italy Vs Germany fair game the winner deserved it. Lets hope same happens with Portugal Vs France match aswell.

Yes the way France has bounce back is simply amazing. What better way to come to spotlight other than by defeating the world champions. Well at the moment they would be feeling invincible and sometimes this all it takes to keep on winning. I wont be surprised myself it its French Vs Germany final but then lets see if Brazilian Coach can work some magic in the Partugal team once more.

Afghanistan presents a prime location to monitor the activities of Russia aswell as China.
Its a known fact that the Central Asian states were eager to supply oil which goes through Afghanistan Pakistan to the Sea. China would be the prime beneficiary of that deal. So what you do? You want to stop China march to domination, So US along with Brition come and sits in Afghanistan key area which could have been claimed all other areas.
Please keep the 9/11 myth to ur self as nobody with logics buys it.
