Agree – great site.
I’ve posted the RAF MTB one on our RAF Forum for our boat drivers.
And nothing to do with the case..!!

Ready, aye, ready!
Live & Learn?
I was going to pick Moggy up on his Catapult Aircraft Merchantmen title. For me it has always been Armed, which slips off the tongue more easily & is listed in some references.
So I went back to source & find, of course, that he is perfectly correct.
Another dream gone!

See my PM.
As to Volunteers, I eat my words!!

PS Apologies, Ollie, for diluting ypur thread, but I think there’s room for both of us?
PPS On the practical side again, I can’t find the facts, but I’m sure that the 13 rockets were fired in 2 bursts. 0-70 in 1 second. Ferrari – gird your loins!!
Launch? Correct! We launched for the return to Fairwood Common – SOP – cheaper than off-loading in dock.
Model. Not too bad, considering? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/hurri.jpg
Work? Time to relax when out of Condor range. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/self.jpg
Peace? Rather like this one – the calm as we approached Canada. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/west.jpg

PS How come via Great Sampford?
I believe it was a Zeiss Ikon. I progressed to a Super Ikonta – very ‘with it’ in the early ’40s!
Went with Wife to a ceremony at Speke in 1993. In his speech, AVM Mike Lyne (ex MSFU pilot) proudly said and of course, all our pilots were volunteers. Wife looked at me, I looked at Wife, raised eyebrows – news to us!!
But – we were VERY special (makes you laugh!!) – http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/photo04/RAF2/msfu001.jpg
And while on the subject –

Our Fighter Direction Officer (the Navy type) showed the possible boredom. I read that elsewhere the crew learnt Spanish, Navigation ……..!!
I spent my time whittling a model Hurricane & playing cads & darts.
Oh, & as pictured, on watch!

Like what, Adrian? Unlike on the Russian & Gibraltar runs, we had little excitement on the Atlantic run. For which I’m now grateful!
For a start, here’s the base – Speke. Quite pleased with the photo – taken through thick industrial haze with a x3 orange filter.
I think that the ground (training) catapult is the dark patch just left of the nearest hangar.

Well said. Flew it. Loved it.

By the way, Hurrilad – the off-loading sequence was in Dartmouth – or Halifax, splitting hairs? – expensive way of doing it but had to respect the memory of the explosion there. 13 rockets on launch make an awful racket!
This was the scene on our first night – first night lights in 2 1/2 years of blackouts – a different world! Wonderworld!! June ’42.
We were allowed free drinks in the Club, & that delightful girl borrowed her – to whom I was later introduced – boyfriend’s car to entertain. Hospitality with a capital H!!

For whatever reason, I note from my diary that he also ‘did’ me at Northolt in late ’40.
Must have ben passing the time!!
Ever decreasing circles!
I meant the title to be http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=33926&highlight=captain+cuthbert+orde which mentioned a book of portraits?. That was too long by one character, so I shortened it & said add +orde,
When the title took one into the forum, I thought all was OK & deleted that advice not realising that, of course, it would, but not back to the earlier post. If that makes sense?
And ‘the book’?
A bit of ooops there, Ollie – look back!
