Dunno where you got your info from (but the date is the same!), both Air Britain Serials and Shores et al have Z5140 shot down on this date.

Actually it was in Malta the Spitfire Years by Shores, Cull and Malizia

One of eight 126 Sqn Hurricanes which took of from Takali

Sgt Jack Mayall was shot down; his Hurricabe Z1540 (Coded C) crashed near Qormi, and the Australian was killed. It was believed he was the 24th victim of Hpt. Karl-Heinz Krahl, Kommandeur of II/JG3

126 Sqn had ‘HA’ code at the time

BTW Mark 12, there is another picture of Z2491 ‘HA-D’ on page 15 of this book.

Another possibility is 43-9393 – Douglas A-20G-25-DO Havoc
