I had a lot of friends who were offered jobs with Now Airlines, some even took the offer up and did the training before being made redundant last Christmas.

Very strange way of doing things. Apparently, they got their AOC, hired and trained everyone before they even had all the cash in the bank.

Can’t seem them coming back anytime soon IMHO.

Very sad indeed that they’re ditching the name. I know it was a little corny, but their old “Britannia Royal Service” did make the passengers feel a little special.

So if they’re using Thomsonfly on what was Britannia, does that mean they will be selling “Britannia” charter tickets on Thomsonfly.com? At the moment you can buy Britannia charter tickets in either direction through Thomsonflights.com but maybe this will change. You can get offered Thomsonfly tickets on Thomsonflights.com if you enter BHX or EMA in your search criteria. It assumes you won’t mind CVT if you asked for either of these.

Its sad to see these great charter airlines not being able to decide of they’re “No-frill/Lo-cost” or not. Bring back hot towels!!!

Oh good, nice to see a 145 now in new colours. Maybe they’ll use the left over paint for a few more livery upgrades! bmi have to be slowest I’ve ever seen to update their fleet!

Are my eyes deceiving me or have bmi finally started paint jobs on the 145’s now then? I thought it was only the 135’s that had the new livery?

AV8air went bust a while back after only a few weeks flying!! Good news for the DC-10!!!

Thats strange… I have a friend who was with AV8 as a Number 1. Last time I spoke to her she said the UK work had all been pulled yet they had all been sent to Brussels to work on the AV8 767 for some Belgium charter company.

AV8 was the in-house airline of CT2 (Club Travel 2000) was it not? I thought they had purely decided not to operate their own flights and ditched the 757? The 767 was definately still doing something in Brussels after the 757 went.

    Anyone know anymore???

Its called “cooking the taxes” danairboy!

Most airlines do it. There are a couple of legitimate tax codes that can be used on airline tickets for the airline concerned to charge pretty much anything they want to which goes back into their own pockets, not the government or airports. Crazy isn’t it!

Oh, ok. Well I got AMS in the first couple of weeks of Feb with no problem. Cost me £60 in tax for two seats, thats it.

I’m an ex-bmi employee, having worked in Res as well as crew I know these seats tend to be held back at weekends etc. They are usually there, but believe me, they fly out the window, especially as the staff get to know about them first and are allowed to book as many as they want. Remember, they only have to offer 1 seat on a flight to make these claims don’t they. Doesn’t help you I know…

    🙁

    danairboy,

I just got some, no problem. Got a nice little weekend in Amsterdam, and a weekend in Malaga. My email said all free tickets are ex-BHX only, to celebrate the launch of BHX base. Were you trying for tickets from EMA only?

I noticed when I was searching that the weekends don’t seem to be £0 fare, only weekdays. Don’t forget its only for Jan-Mar from what I can remember too.

    Good luck!

Well, I thought the B717 was pretty neat aircraft. Nice cabin, very quiet, loads of room in the hat racks, although not quite the same pull on take-off as I’ve experienced on the Spanair MD80’s. Maybe the flight deck just didn’t need quite so much power out of MCO, I’m no expert there! The cabin is more my speciality!

A 717 is just a tarted up rebadged DC9 anyway

    No sh*t 😉

Slightly less noisey I seem to remember too!

    Thats it RenFrew!!!

    Thank god someone remembered!!!

I think they merged with another carrier, and took their name. I remember AirTran having the Valujet DC9’s for a while, indeed our Captain still had “DC9 Captain” label on his bag.

    Cheers for that.

Yes, it was a good route danairboy.

A friend of mine used it nearly 10yrs ago he says, and is sure it was on an old 747 classic (possible a 100?) at some point.

AA did carry it on for a while you know, didn’t realise they scrapped it!
