I wonder why people rank Germany in the top 3. Is it because of the huge F-4 historic flight ?
Is it because of the huge UH-1D memorial flight ?
Is it because of the extravagant C-160 memorial flight? (Well more or less flight, when the C-160 are not grounded)
Don´t get me wrong personal vice the German Air Force is an exceelent force, but most of the current equipment is way past its prime.
Regarding Russia. Just to be fair one would have to count only the units available in european Russia. If those forces are that much superior, that they could fight and win against the combined forces of France and the UK, seems to be more then doubtfull.
My list would be :
1. UK
2. France
3. Greece
4. Spain
5. The Netherlands
6. Germany
7. Italy
8. Belgium
yes the weather is sooo bad here, I wonder if we will have sunshine enough this summer 🙁
the pictures are great Seahawk, do you go often spotting in DUS ? cause I do from time to time.
Regards
I often go on sundays. I think I will be going on the 18th and 25th as well. Especially on the 25th as this is the first weekend when the holidays have started here and I expect a lot of traffic then.
And who said that the F-4 was a bad design should really read a lot more info about the mighty Phantom.
Funny discussion. The reasoning that the F-22 is not a stealthy design is completely wrong. In fact the more conventional look of the F-22 shows that it is a much more modern stealth design then the F-117 or even the B-2. Which means with current materials, computing power and knowledge the designers could achieve there RCS target without having to make huge compromises on the rest of the design.
RAM itself only plays a very minor part in the design of the Raptor, as even modern RAM is still extremely expensive, quite easy to damage and still a big problem in the daily servicing of the aircraft. Furthermore we must see that a plane totally depending on RAM must convert all incoming radar energy into other forms of energy (read heat). A better designed plane however is capable of just absorbing a bit of the energy and dispersing the reast into different directions, so that the actual return of energy into the direction of the emitter is very much reduced. In fact it is reduced to a point in which the return signal is too weak to be noticed. If you look at all edges of Raptor you see that they are very carefully designed. No 90° corners. Many parallel lines, engines are shielded.
BTW RAM does not reduce the IR signature, in fact it does increase it, although only to a very small ammount.
IR reduction is achieved in the reduced need for the use of an afterburner (supercruise), high speed and a well designed frontal section which has a very smooth design. Furthermore heat is transported from hot ections to cooler section through the use of the internal structures. Even the fuel tanks are used to cool certain airframe sections. A practicse that was already tested in the SR-71.
The european fighters are only RCS reduced. The frontal section of the EF for example is reduced compared to a conventional aircraft. And it is said to work excellent when the emitters is facing the aircraft from certain angles. Look at the earyl EF demonstrator and current series production modells and you will see that some of the stealth research done in europe in the 80ies has found its way into the final EF design. But the level of Stealth of those fighters is much worse, then that of the F-22.
Isn´t Dolphin class a close relative to the 214/212 ??
Could we have a the white replaced with gold ??
An armed V-22 would be something like a modern OV-10 Bronco. Comparable speed and alltitude. It would be very vulnerable to most ground weapons, yet it won´t be able to do NAP flying.
I want a 7E7 for Condor – a dream come true
How about giving the V-22 a gun, some stingers and 2 Hellfires. If they need more firepower they can use the J-35 or a real attack helicopter.
The US has control over JDAM like weapons in the way, that US controls the GPS system which is used to guide the weapons. Turn off the GPS, the weapons are unguided.
Thrughout the years, Iran managed to build a complete infrastructure for reproducing their own spare parts for F-14A, including engine and radar parts. Isn’t Pakistan able to reproduce spares for even the much simpler Mirage?
They are some 100 millions of Pakistanis, what are they doing the whole day long?
We should see the difference that F-14A spares were nearly impossible to buy on the free market for the Iranians, so they had to built everything.
Mirage III spares however have been plenty in the 70ies, 80ies and even 90ies. Only today Mirage III operators become less and spare stocks are dropping. Perhaps even french stocks are completely exhausted and so every replacement part has to be new built, which makes it expensive.
Sorry, to disappoint you, but it is highly unliekly that Pakistan will get the Grippen.
Reasons :
– swedish laws regarding the export of offensive weapons are pretty strict. They forbid selling such weapons to trouble spots
– the Nuclear weapons programm of Pakistan is another no go
– the US must spprove the sale
– most weapons for Grippen are manufactured in international cooperation, so they would need an export licencse from the cooperating nations for every single weapon
– AMRAAM is unlikely
– Meteor is out of the question
– Israeli weapons are also impossible
– Taurus – no way
It might be a try to convince the US to sell some used F-16s. Nothing more.
I think they could get a good FMS deal if they go ahead with the purchase. When you look at US plans to withdraw forces from Korea back to CONUS, then it makes sense to compensate the lost strength in that theatre, 40 more F-15Ks would be perfect.
Well, I think most of you are looking in the wrong direction.
The interest in more SUs is well known.
However I don´t see Vietnam going for the LCA or the FC-1. They have shown a healthy interest in the new Korean trainer/light fighters. The Wong KTX-1 Wong Bee and the T/A-50 are said to be considered by the Vietnamese for replacement of older Soviet origin types.
would the Fokker F-28 not qualify as an early generation RJ ??
