Perhaps in March in March/April with the nextgen ATI / NV chips, but I doubt it. Even 256 MB has not many advantages today. 512MB would be useless for gaming. (fpr those doing 3D rendering – maybe)

I do agree those Serbian pilots had no chance. The planes being barely able to fly, with a not fully operational radar, without operational GC, they had no chance.

The Iraqi pilots during the IIPGW could have done better. But they failed. It is known that the best Iraqi pilots prefered the Mirage F1 or the MiG-25 over the Mig-29.

Even in the conflict betwen Eritrea and Ethopia the Mig-29 did not perform well.

I think the bad reputation i more based on bad tactics and average pilots, then on a bad plane.

hanging bombs on the Me-262 was an evil thing to do.

apart from that. Low-viz scheme are evil.

They would have needed TIE Space Interceptors to get some decent kill-to-lose ratio in such conditions.

Yes and no. The examples you gave actually saw the MiG-29 doing exactly the mission it should be doing best. Interception with GCI against enemy aircraft. The MiG-25 for example did actually proove it is capable of its designed role in the IIPGW, while the MiG-29 failed.

That can imo not entirely blamed on circumstances. Or do you believe that the M2k5 would have done much worse when they would have had no AWACS support and only GC radar to help them. I doubt that.

Imo either the tactics to use the MiG-29s were totally wrong or the plane has some major weakness or a combination of both. (i believe 1 is true)

I think it safe to say that MICA beats AMRAAM very clearly.

On 40:1 it would depend on the circumstances. If the F-16 are strikers and the F-4Fs are escorts, while the M2k5 is doing OCA, then they should win clearly, even with both sides enjoying AWACS support. The F-4F is no match for a modern opponent in the BVR arena as it lacks a decent IFF.

We will have to see what the offical decision will be. I heard another rumor today.

EF might escape the cuts, but F-4s will be withdrawn early and the Tornado will not be put through an MLU. They will soldier on till 2015 (ECRs) and then might be replaced with even more EFs.

Which would mean that Germany could be going for an all EF fleet after 2015.

Neither from the 2 mentioned above.

Both are really slow cards. A GeForce 4Ti 4200 is much faster.

So a good advice would be (from cheap to expensive)

    – GeForce 4 Ti 4200
    – Radeon 9600 Pro (mit 400Mhz CPU /600 Mhz RAM)
    – Radeon 9600 XT
    – GeForce FX 5900XT
    – Radeon 9800pro

And if you look at the rumored cuts for the other services, that will hurt.

What will hurt ? Struck wrote on Dec. 5th.: EF will be bought as fixed in contract. (Fast) weapons integration and all subsystems will be financed. Cost saving through earlier retirement of Phantoms, Hueys, Tornados, patrol boats, some armor and other old scrap. Cuts in Tiger and NH-90 purchases. Only a ‘basic’ order for Meteor and Iris-T (about 1/3 less), rest will be bought if a conflict becomes hot. Concentration on purchase and development of new equipment, especially for communication. (Link 16 for all Marine-vessels, more collaboratian between Army, Navy and Airforce, via those datalinks). New Torpedos for U-212, Breguet Atlantic will be kept in service. New self- defense System for Transall (flaredispensers and such stuff). No MLU for Tornados. That looks bad for Tornado not for Typhoon. It looks as only recce- and nuclear assignment Tornados would be kept in service. No word about Marine Tornados. The planned 60 A-400M will be bought, too. CSAR version and Navy version of NH-90 will be financed. Roland and Hawk Sams will be scrapped. Only thing I see is that Tranche 2 and 3 will have more commonality.
At last: What was the source, BILD AM SONNTAG ? Seems like no celebrity was drunk this week and did something worth to print.

I agree that we will have to wait how hard the Luftwaffe will be hit and how hard EF will be hit, but the Heer will suffer.

NH-90 is the most critcal item at the moment. the Hueys are obsolete and the CH-53s are getting old, there is huge need for a modern tactical transport helicopter. Cuts in the Mungo and Puma programm are acceptable, but the cuts in the GKT programm are a bad joke. Did they forget the bus bombing in Kabul ?? There is huge need for cheap armored personal carriers, that are reliable.

For the Luftwaffe we will have to see what will happen. Perhaps they go with 180 EFs and withdraw the Tornado and F-4 early. Then Luftwaffe would be doing ok.
