RE: Iraqi Invitation
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-08-02 AT 08:15 AM (GMT)]My opinon :
An invasion of Irak is stupid, they are no threat to anyone. And even if the US would win (without suffering terrible looses) the resulting civil war in Irak would kill more people, then SH ever could.
Irak is only a target, because Mr. Bush seems to hate the idea of a strong arab leader, who could make the region independent from US influence and SH is the only person that has enough charisma to do so.
Honestly I believe that Saudi Arabia had more influence in 9/11 then SH. Yet they are an ally, while he is evil.

RE: huh?
I really do not know why the US gets so excited about 9/11.
The first time a US building was blown up was the bombing in Oklahoma City. As far as I remember he was close to some christian / right wing groups ?? After that what was done against this groups ??
These people were living in the US and so enjoyed all the freedom and prosperity there.
And if some people from countries who have been suffering under US world domination dreams for years do the same (on a larger scale) you start to condem the whole religion.
You even attack another country for that (and are willing to attack yet another), but I would like to know would you have used such force (or only parts of it) against 1 of the christian right wing camps in the US ??

RE: Singapore – political and strategic overview.
As I posted already on another thread. I´m working in the buisnnes and there is no problem in turning sewer water into drinking water.
In the part of Germany where I do live water is recycled about 5 times. And we can say that we without any doubts have one of the highest standards for drinking water in the world.
It is all a matter of polution control and how you treat your sewage water. If you treat it to todays technological possiblities it is as clear as normal river water (unpoluted river water).
Recycling water is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of technology advancement, and resources protection. It is much more sensefull then taking more clear raw water. That water has to be treated after use anywhere, if you do not want to risk a long time impact on your water resources anyway.

RE: An example.
Skythe, my point was that you seem to have no problems with such an article that clearly critices Germany, but you blame the europeans that they are criticising Israel for what they are doing with the Palestinians. I personally have no problem with Israel criticising germany when it shows anti-semitic tendencies, but perhaps then we should be able to express our dislike when childeren a killed by Israeli fighters.
If Israel as a friendly relationship to Germany (it has imo) then there must always be room for criticism.
(I could argue more about the article, espcially about the part claiming that Germany today feels no longer guilty for the holocaust, but that does not belong in here)
Europe does many things wrong, nobody denies that, but perhaps we have learned a bit from our history and prefer a diplomatic solution instead of violence. And when you look at the development Europe has gone through in the last 50 years it seems to have been quite succesfull for us.

Which I personally prefer to the way of life germany had before WWII.
But WWII can not be compared to any other conflict later on.
WWII was a fight by 2 sides for world domination. Korae could be counted in that category if you see it as a fight against communism.
(As can be the Cold War, in which the US saved much of europe from Communist rule)
But after that all conflicts the US was involved in was what I like to call colonial wars. There the US did not fight for anybodys freedom, but for their military, political or economical interests.
Desert Storm, Grenada, Vietnam, there the US did not fight for freedom imo.
And today US politics are getting stupid, this if you are not with us you are against us attitude is what really builds up the hate against the US. I think the freedom of the the US i not threatened by Saddam Hussein, but perhaps he could be a threat to ISrael so there is a political interest to fight him, but it is not to defend anyones freedom.
The US and its cultural colonialism which wants to every country to accept the US life style as the only free life style is what makes people criticse the US. I mean look at 9/11 instead of even thinking about what might have been the reasons behind the hate against the US felt by some arabs, you just start another war, a war which you will not win imo, because you can not win against people that want to give their life for the cause they believe in. And now you want to force your allies into the conflict, well I would say no thanks we do not want to. Bombing weddings will surely not help fight terrorism and a new war against Irak will not too.
What would help :
1st. Be neutral in the conflict of Israel and the PA
2nd Remove your troops from the middle east, Irak is no threat anymore

RE: Sociological question
Well simpy put, we are not more efficent then any other european country, that is just a stereotype.
I personally believe that the average german works even less then most other eruopeans.
Our only advantage is that our workforce overall is highly qualified, which helps them to be effective.
I you ask me I´m not proud of being german, and if I would get a good job I would work nearly everywhere in europe, the US or NZ or Australia. (Well make it europe except France – as I find it very hard to speack french)
There are many things wrong in germany, starting from the high rate of inemployed to the idiots denying the Nazi crimes (or the idiots saying you must be ashamed to be german because of that). I think especially Britain and germany have much in common.
