It’s very easy for a layman to justify that by saying we have St Mawgan up the road!
Think you mean NCA, St Mawgan no longer has an active airfield, but we can get a glimpse of our old one through the fence 😉
quite sad really 🙁
Quite a well researched book on the subject by local man Bob Andrews, a mutual friend of Pagen01 & mine. 🙂

Used to ride my enduro bike all around the old site before flying kicked off again, there’s the remains of an old dynamite/gunpowder factory there too, which made for some spectacular crashes & causing even more dents to my poor old XT500 😮
It would make a great motorsport venue 😀 That would get the Nimbys mighty angry :diablo:
Watch out, BK! Make sure you’re wearing your tin hat – someone’s sue to take offence because you asked a reasonable question…
Got to agree, valid question which appears in no way a dig at the aircraft or the people who restored it.
I’d be asking the same question if I was building a model of a particular aircraft & noticed what may be an anomaly, I can recall noticing that according to the instruction sheet for Matchbox’s HP Victor some only had one roundel on the upper, then going crazy trying to find out if this was actually the case (pre-internet)
Just renewed on the Skoda Ute.
Same brokers (A-Plan at Thatcham) offered me a reduction on last year. Now just £192
Moggy
Use A-Plan as well, did me a very good price for my Ford Galaxy & no complaints with the service, The Mustang is insured with Adrian Flux at the moment as they do pretty good classic car policys.

Time to steal Twin Otters thunder 😀
Actually, Newarks is a really good website 😎
These threads make me laugh.. all the naysayers come out of the woodwork like roaches when the lights are off.
Not entirely true, we’re here when the lights are on or off :p
We’ve heard it all before I’m afraid, however some of the stories, although based on a common theme, get quite inventive. You could argue that if someone keeps inventing & telling these stories, one day they’re bound to be right, a bit like the monkeys & typewriter thing.
Once again, always happy to be proved wrong 😉
Can anybody answer two question
1) what if any RAF present is there at St Mawgan today ?
2) where will Airbase be located on the base and what access does the collection have ?
http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafstmawgan/
Airbase will be in our old Nimrod HMF hangar 404, the old VAHS building & the old 1sqn MT hangar. all of which is on the ‘other’ side of the fence & not actually on RAF St Mawgan at all, but part of NCA.
AFAIK, Airbase is not set up yet, in fact far from it, give it time I guess, access will be off the new ‘Aerohub’ road.
But why dont they just take care of the one that guards the former main gate?
It still is the main gate, RAF St Mawgan is still going strong! & 795 is very well cared for by the Cornish Aviation Society
Got sent this clip last week, was going to post it, but have become a shade paranoid on the repost front 😮
Anyhow, as to the P51, he was doing quite well until he wrecked the prop & probably engine as well
That was no dream, it was XF708 on a test flight prior to moving to Newquay, it was considered easier to convert it to an autogyro 😉

I would imagine removing those last two engines would tip the balance some how…
Always wander up to have a look when I’m racing at Shakey, very sad to see a once mighty 3/3 in such a state.
Although still an RAF unit, I’d like to see St Mawgan reinstated as a flying unit, not fussy with what, the controversial F35 would be nice, just to pee off the NIMBYS from St Mawgan village :diablo:
Also RAF St Eval would be nice, just so the noise levels could be kept at a satisfactorily high level for round the clock NIMBY annoyance :diablo:
