Ah, The Daily Heil, essential reading for that “feel good” factor
Quite enjoy the coffee break page though 😮
Did read that story from various sources though. Pretty poor show, but at least they’ve shown their true colours for all to see.

Take the rest of the day off, Dr’s orders 😀
Just noticed the picture of the Stirling on the Feltwell site-
Could’ve been the inspiration for the Airfix Stirling box art-

I find it fascinating to see the log book entries of the folks that actually flew these aircraft. It somehow adds an extra dimension, where was your father based in 1953?
Busy year for him in ’53, 78 Squadron on Valletta’s based at Fayid, then 1 ANS at Hullavington mainly on Varsity’s .
As for the Varsities at RAF Catterick during my visit on 26 July 1977, according to my log, present were the following:
WJ896 Coded D
Looks like you’ve done it again QP:D
Apology’s for fathers rather informal log book keeping (sounds like you were far more diligent!) but it would appear he flew on 896 (one assumes WL) 11/12/53
Great pity he didn’t note the serials fully on Varsitys, he mostly recorded the aircraft’s letter.

Amazing photos QuePee 😎
Have to concur with Pagey, that shot of the tin hats is remarkable.
There isn’t the slightest chance that these pilots would jeopardise their future careers by actually doing this.
Oh the irony 😀
Herb Tichler (spelling?) was the gentleman in question I believe
Outstanding pics, nice work ![]()
Anytime I find myself travelling along the M11 (very rare) I call in to Duxford, it’s the law 😉
I’d really like to believe it isn’t, I mean, how funny would that really be? Two squadrons of disgruntled Harrier personnel putting on one final display for the suits stuffed full of bu66er all.
Sadly though, it is shopped, but one could always hope…..:D
The venerable Shackleton, just think of the possibility’s, great all rounder, could fit sidewinders & inflight refuelling capability (but mind those props!)
Then, a few years down the line, BAE could take them all to bits, fit different wings, engines & avionics, except this time it’ll be called the Shackleton 3000, just to give then a chance of getting it ready on time. :diablo:
edit: just seen spitfiremans lancaster-rod, damn you Wallond!
Took me a moment – but what a beauty!!
= Tim
Yes, better viewed a steps away from the screen, that way you can really appreciate the precision flying 😉 😀
A lovely shot of their last flypast over The Houses Of Parliament, impeccable formation flying as is befitting for such an occasion.

From the Kinloss web site –
closure of the unit as an RAF station 31 Mar 13 with a handover to Defence Estates to be completed by 31 Mar 14.
