Well the snow seems to have gone now, sun’s shinning 🙂 and its 117 days to the Duxford Spring Air show which “commemorates the 70th anniversary of the United States Army Air Force arriving at RAF Duxford in April 1943. Historic US warbirds will take to the skies as we remember the time when the stars and stripes flew at RAF Duxford”. (from iwm page)

So hopefully this will include the main Duxford residents Sally B, Miss Pick up, Ferious Frankiee, Miss Velma, BearCat, Coursair, P40’s and what else can we be surprised with. Would be nice if something from the US bases in Suffolk took part, and then its 164 days to Legends 😀

Hi Charlie hope your happy iam !!! 🙂 😀 😉

I hope im not in trouble for reporting the first Legends booking 2013 but Just picked up on the The Manhattan Dolls face book page ‘commented on their Wall post’.
The Manhattan Dolls wrote: “Yes we are! This summer for The Flying Legends Air Show and possibly The Waddington Air Show. Hope to see you then!”

Yes, quite right Chris. Use to feel the time warp sensation myself when visiting Dx Shows.
Loads of fantastis memories of the old shows come back from reading these threads…..
Anyone bumped into the German Luftwaffe Staffel Capatain weilding the Swagger Stick.
I also remember that at the end of the airshows the commentary team would thank all the “Little People” for their efforts. The resoration crews, the cadets, the litter pickers. one of the only places that these people got an applause (as one of the little people at the time it meant a lot).

So why did they stop ?, perhaps a petition to show organisers to start again or is it all to do PPL

Well here’s a view from inside the fence today. The warmth of summer and the sound of warbirds seems a long time away…
I did take some of the Ju52/Amiot/Toucan/Iron Annie and if anyone shows an interest I might upload a couple.

yes please do:)

Yes, I do still attend the shows. THis years Legends was one of the best i’ve bben to for a while. Will post a couple of shots when I am brave enough. Very good forum for discussions and answers to members questions. there are some very clued up people out there.

I think probably the best Legends ive been to for a while was 2008, and definitely the 2010 main Duxford show in September will take some beating. For those who can remember the centenary of flight show watching a 747 perform over Duxford field will be remembered as a highlight. I didn’t have a digital camera then if but someone can post some images im sure they will be welcome and would bring back memories ? 😀

Just seen this in Google news A bit far ahead i know but may be worth putting in the calender 2014 Tour De France Day 3 starts in Cambridge and the follows the A10 through Royston could be some traffic diversions and congestion and Legends is 4 days later. Best get the bike ready ?

Lowestoft’s gone to. I think the days of many air shows happening at the same time in the same area are becoming limited. This could be a good or bad thing. Less opportunity for owners to recoup funds for restorations/flight costs etc etc but more choice for organisers to choice from, i wonder how much longer major air shows will continue to clash.
Legends and Shuttelworth have clashed for a few years but i think they don’t this year which can only be good.

im missing the first 4 as i didn’t attend then and then 2003 have certainly seen some unique aircraft and formations. I miss the Bretling fighters though

I have these programes and lots of others from shows spanning back to early 80’s. Am I allowed to say when these will be appearing on ebay on this forum or is that not allowed.
you can private message me if you like ! So i can get the first offer in ?

Certainly for the 50th anniversary there was quite a major event at the Derwent Reservoir so I imagine at least something will happen there this year.

yer i think i have an old VHS tape of this narrated by Richard Todd OBE must dig it out, there’s loads of stuff on you tube to with Tornado,s, Mosquito passing over the dam at Derwent i think ? before the Lanc passes over. If i new how to post clips i would add one here
Comparing the flight path of a tornado and lanc down the valley was interesting.

I am almost certain that MH434 didn’t appear at any of the Southend Airshows at that time. I don’t think MH434 was reimported from Belgium until 1967 and in the early days still flew in a civil colour scheme as G-ASJV.
Mark12 can probably confirm it but, from memory I think the only Spitfires at the Southend displays in 1967/8 were AB910 and 2 seater G-AIDN in the flying display and K9942 which in those days was carted around on a trailer by the RAF exhibition team.

like i said i was only 4 so really don’t know. I only found this and a picture of the Lincoln that was at Southend a few months ago. I think Mark 12 is in or on the way to Myanmar (Burma) so maybe he could shed some light later ?

My first Spitfire was at Southend probably around 1966 – 68 i have been told this is probably MH434 but as it was a home developed by my grandfather on grainy paper have no idea ( i was about 4 years old)
