Hmmmmm.
I don,t think the phrase “Amature built” P51a coins it too well.AFAIK Gerry was a professional
aircraft restorer.:(
A sad loss
We can never forget nor underestimate the role these high spirited women had during WW2.A pity today that role models like that are usually not looked at in prestige.:( A different world..
Realy pushing ahead
Cheers Ian.Looks like a winner there.Even if your not rebuilding a complete Lib a few drawings would be nice as a display piece.Plus there are a lot of guys into turret rebuilds..Keep up the good work.We could always use more Spitfire drawings,oh and Me109… 😀
Awaiting the Australian translated version..
-Remove and replace tailwheel = one beer

Cheers Phantom.A great start and laugh for the day..Cheers.Honestly I could have done with a Hayes at the start of last week when my boss decided to drag this into the workshop..NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!:diablo:
Talk about home garage mechanics…
Talk about a bolt from the Blue. Thanks for the headsup. This one is a definite starter for the bookcase. Now where is my little red toolbox..:D
Wonder if it has a step by step account of working on the systems. Now that would be a winner.
Maaaaaate!!!!
Stuart you are indeed a gentleman..Any info would be appreciated so send away.Hendon is a tad far for us to walk/swim to.2 Pounds Sterling equals to 85 Aussie dollars.Hmmm looks like the exchange rate has gone down..:diablo:
Got to love the mother country for that.Just pm me with the detail old bean..;)
And thank you for the help…
Oh here is some screenies of the fuse loft we worked out..

Welcome..Spit fanatic..
Another brother to the secret society…For the frames and skin you would go for 2024T3 as 7075 doesn,t like bending. It is usually used for high strength areas like doublers etc, anything flat. You can hammerform T3 Ok but O or “Annealed makes it an easier exercise but then you have the added drama of heat treating. After forming stretching or shrinking the flange is a must to get the frames straight to save you a lot of work putting it all together.A lot of the guys here are spitmaniacs and have experience on type so any queries just ask away..Good luck and please show us progress pics..:D
Life and Death.
I think instead of analyzing how someone died we should be celebrating on how he lived and what he achieved.Leave the conjecture for the investigators.Thats their job.How many car accidents receive the same amount of coverage. Not racing cars just ordinary people who,s lives are shattered for ever.Should the Warbird industry be any different?Sure they are Million dollar machinery but the people who fly them know the risks the same as a person knows the risk of driving a car.Accidents happen.Thats why they are called accidents. They are not planned but we can try to minimize the risks.
Don,t panic…
Errrr unless it,s a V2…Hate to think of the stuff thats around the place in England.A mate of mine works at an old Army Reserve here in Auss and every day he blows up ordinance left here after WW2.
Siezed parts..
At the moment I,m in the middle of restoring the bosses M3 Lee Medium Tank and the thing we use to loosen up bits is a penetrant like WD40 or INOX…Lots of it…..Apply every day in copious amounts and she may give way.If that fails a gentle heat with the Oxy might dislodge things. What you aiming to do is crack the rust that has welded the parts together..A sudden hit with a soft heavy object might do…:D
OOps,front of line…
Two threads would be the way to go.One for the general condolences for the bereaved and the other for handbags at dawn.
Hmmmm Merlins…
The sound, the history, the form of the aircraft in flight. The added joy is designing and building each individual part knowing one day that it will be part of something magical when complete.
Heaven is 46 inches of Mercury,2700rpm and 400 knots at 200 feet.:D
A sad loss
Planes can be rebuilt.Lives can,t.To all the friends and family involved our condolences.A loss
of another soul is tragic.:(
Holdens..
I,m just impressed that an Aussie car gets recognized on here .Cheers Firebird.I had an FB Holden Ute in my younger days which was the model before the EK.Difference was mainly the main bar of the Grill. The FB had a plain chrome bar whereas the EK had an insert in the middle showing the GMH Lion motiff. Also the EK had electric windscreen wipers as the earlier FB and previous models had vacuum.Great till you went up a hill  .
Cheers Mark 12 for the fascinating Pics. The Dambuster Lanc looks divine:D .
Depends how hard you pull.
:diablo: The Extras doing the Red Bull series pull upwards of 6 to 8 g,s in the Immelman turn.
