Not the Atlantic but Pacific.
Randal Macfarlains new A26 was flown across the Pacific with the water tanks sealed up and converted into long range ferry tanks. So much sealant…..Not an easy job to remove either.
Well said….
Yep agree with you Cees.Build it and they will come…Taking the first step is the hardest but after that you let your feet follow. You might stumble a bit and lose your sanity but hasn,t everyone on this forum who has been through this process already done that?
Fuse wise…
Fuse wise the differences would have been minimal.Under the pilots feet on frame 9 a Sllpper tank attachment was added plus the jettison handle, plus a few different holes here and there for different parts for the Merlin 45.As said the change from a “B” wing to a “C” Universal would have taken the most time with rerouting of lines, cables etc.I would leave it to more knowledgeable guys here but time wise I would say a day maybe..tentatively,hopefully 😮 .
Great Stuff
Can never start them too young..And yes Heaven is 46 inches of mercury,2700 RPM and 400 knots on the clock..Just to hear that Merlin sing…:D
Know how much work is involved with Fly Ins etc so congrats to all the hard work involved. Will take a while for the grin to disappear I bet…:D 😉
Hmmm Chinese
Has to be a Nanchang!!!!Or a Panda….:diablo: Anyone see any bamboo deliveries??
Awstruck..
Superb,simply superb!!! Love the weathering job.:D
I can see a bright future for you indeed.
Go for it….
😀 …..Do all your planning first, check for manuals, drawings, anything that will give you an idea on the internals of the structure.Even check the Modelling community for any info around.Cutaways views are good for overall shapes and positioning of bulkheads and major components/equipment.I also would use 3D design programs to help out in the construction. One saving grace is that some of the equipment would be general WW2 British issue and still be available.Get that stuff quick before all the Spitfires in the world eat them up :diablo: Plus the community here would be behind you 200%.
Another one
This one is on the go as well..;) http://www.fighterwerks.com/index.htm
You know us Aussies Stuart!!
Why put a 44 in there when a couple of kegs of Beer will suffice. 😀
Cheers mate.
Will try and get there this year as I know my boss will probably have at least one of his toys there.Had a good turn out at Oakey last weekend so there are plenty of quality warbirds in the area.:D
Sweet scheme..
Now that would have scared the hell out of any other aircraft at a Tiger Meet.Hope some good comes out of it and that something is done to preserve them.I bl00dy hope that the lessons of the past are not repeated.Good luck guys and congrats to the guys on working on such a great paint job.
There can only be one..
Oops sorry had a Highlander moment. From what I,ve heard from Aussie pilots the MkV was the most forgiving and had the best balance between weight, power and controls.A real lady..:D
The hole at Archerfield!!
What I have heard is that due to the drought here in Auss the water table has dropped enough for bits to start showing again.
Rest assured there is stuff still around. We are still digging up bits and bobs out at Oakey but only a small percentage of it could be called as usable.A lot of stuff crumples in your hands from rust.Only the stainless steel gun chute bits and the higher quality steels survive well enough these days.On the Fly In weekend last our youngest volunteer had great fun kicking up bits of old Kittyhawks and Spits in the paddocks around the museum.
More pics.
LoL yep the pub is still there on the corner.Very tempting to drop in after a hard days work on the Spit. Before I post more pics I would like to thank everyone that attended, especially the guys from Caboolture with Snifter, the Temora guys who bought the Hudson up for a quick visit, the Aerotech crew for the sizzlingT28 formation flying on Saturday, the Chippies that flew in on Sunday and the Beech 18s!!Also thanks to the L4 cub and Mk3 Auster, the Yak and Nanchang guys who always put on a great show,oh and my boss for dragging out his Fw190 replica both days and to everyone else who I have forgotten..THANK YOU!!!:D

Austers.
There are three Austers here in the local area. Two out at the Oakey Army Aviation Museum and one down at Emu Gully where I work.
