I just cry when I hear of an engine blow up at Reno..Thing is these parts will dry up one year.Having been designed for combat they had a limited range where they could be wrung out for a short period of time. Then the erks had to rebuild what was left. Now build an engine that runs that for longer and you’re going to put holes in things where they aren,t supposed to be holes.Running a Centaurus would nearly be as crazy as running a Db605.
watch where you point that thing……
now its removing everything else other than the firing pin!
Geez you could put an eye out with something like that… :diablo: I,m not even thinking about our wings yet.Sending me up the funny farm just worrying about the fuse :p ..
I agree it all comes down to the soil composition to see what survives and what doesn,t.Just recover whats left of the engine and clean up as best as possible. All you can do and have a good pic next to it saying..”This is what it should look like”..Good luck guys.
Cheers for the story mate. Will get down there one day.And yes we are blessed with the quality of the sky sometimes…Now who do we have to bribe to get all those lovely warbirds to come up here!!!!
Stuart give us a yell,we have a few that need fixing:)
Would Hendon hold any original drawings or manuals??Maybe a few ex Hawker draughties might have an idea where they might be found.
They don,t call you the wizz for nothing Mk12..Cheers.Thanks for clearing that up,yes I can see now that bushings weren,t used.Serves me right for relying on brain and memory power when I have the drawings on my HD and getting too lazy to search through them..It,s the numbers..They sort of get to me after a while…”nurse,nurse!!..my medication please!!”…oooohhh that plate has nice numbers.. 😀
Thanks for the answers guys.Good to see that they were put to good use..In regard to Mk12,s question of interchangable wings. Was there any difference in the main spar hole centres?I know they opened them up for bushes as the holes in the centre section got thrashed around with violent manouveres. But did the actual structure..i.e. rib 1,the axuillary spar mount at frame 10,main spar mountings and web plus other mounting points change significantly enough for swapping not to take place. Was just thinking..
Sure there are a thousand and one ways to skin a cat as they say.Someone could have an answer to the problem that has been bugging you and your team for months.
Ahhh nothing like digging a hole in the ground and finding stuff.Cheers mate.Great pix.
Peter the answer is different exhaust stubbs. And different props…I think…
Good to grab them while they are young these days before Playstations rot their minds…great pics mate…
As far as I know the wings were pulled off properly..i.e. access holes were opened and the wing bolts removed. The reason why Swampy is important is that she is a rare E model.Another one is the “Black Cat Pass B17″.Anyway read up on WIX about the recovery. It had an extensive thread about it and the onsuing legal dramas…Thinking about it in a warped sort of way you could say..”Ok here is swamp ghost..You can get it back after we have rebuilt it for you, repainted it for you and got the motors going again…Now you an put a slab down with a shed on top and charge whatever you want for people to look at it…Also we will throw in this lovely restored Boston Havoc.. Cost to you…zero….”
Who got the wings here in Auss??
Wow..Great pic and congrats to the guys down there.Just had a whopper of a day finished cleaning out the 20 odd years of junk that had accumulated in our hangar/workshop.Seeing a pic of that sleek nose in the air really finished off a great weekend. Our Project Manager will be down there next month the lucky sod…Us poor beggars still have to work on weekends.Cheers mate.Wish I could do this stuff all week.
Makes me sick in the stomach….All I got to say.
