Very OT..Steve Irwin. The Croc Hunter dead

Sad news from Australia today.Steve Irwin, universally known as the “Crocodile Hunter” after his Tv shows died this morning after being speared in the chest by a Sting Ray off Cairnes in Northern Queensland.Full story here http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,20349888-2,00.html
Condolences go to his wife Terri, daughter Bindi and the staff of his Australia Zoo complex. He died doing what he loved with great passion and zeal. His considerable work in regard to the protection of endangered animals will always be shadowed by his aussie persona on and off screen.A sad day indeed.

Cheers Gnome..Looks like PJ and CR are on the right track. Will wait with baited breath for previews of it…I think he should have a warning on the movie preview..”Anyone who is offended by racial slurs, please don,t watch it..”.I can remember Saving Private Ryan had such warnings in regard to it,s realistic war scenes. Also “Twister” had a warning here as well, due to the loudness of the movie in some scenes.

For the reply to my question, cheers Beetle…Having PJ in charge of it the film will be great. It all depends on the script and how the story is developed.Reading up on the fan club PJ is using the movie plus a lot of the newer stuff that,s come out of the woodworks about the raid.I hope they pay attention to the huge loss of life that occured down the Rhine where whole villages virtually were swept away after the breaches.War is hell and shouldn,t be glossed over to make it Pc worthy.Hope they have a camera in the nose of one of the (virtual) Lancs showing the low level aspect of the raid.Having the bomb aimer scanning the horizon ahead looking out for power lines, chimney stacks and the like.Nerve wrecking.Plus the young actors shouldn,t have the youth protrayed as such.Remember the crews were hand picked veterans(at 20) and had combat experience.Plus I doubt PJ will take out N!gger as it was a pivotal point in the whole op.Please give the guy some credit,he has enough clout these days to over ride some snippy Pc brigader in hollywood.

But then you hear of other accidents like 457 squadrons Bruce Little.Somersaulting his Spitfire MkVIII at almost 200mphr into the ground after misjudging a loop in a low level stoush with a zero at Millingimbi. He got out with a few scratches, and walked back to camp.I,m building frame 11 on our spit at the moment and supprised how rigid the frame is up the top.It all comes down to a matter of luck I suppose. Thanks Mk12 it,s good to see that at least a part of the first survived..Any other pics guys??

Just read the fan club and it mentioning that the dams were rebuilt to as new.Did they… or was one slightly altered in design after the raid destroyed it?

Lets see.Boxkite,Fokker Triplane replica,F2b replica, couple of Austers,Sea Fury,Fiat Gr59,Chipmunk,Ryan,Boomerang,couple of harvards,T28 Trojans,Nomads,Bell 47,s,Kiowa,Huey,Sc1 prototype,Heaps of Blackhawks,Yak 52,s by the boat load. And in Brizzy there is an Avenger,a Mustang,Yak 9 I think.Ummm thats from my fuzzy memory.Rained all night here and all day.Good rain as well and greatly needed. We are on the highest water restrictions,no outside water to be used.Any other warbirds I have missed guys?? There are a couple of P47,s in Sydney and a boat load of cool stuff at Temora. Can,t miss that museum while your over here.
Only good thing about the Yak 52,s is that I think they share the same lineage from captured Bmw 801,s from during the war.

Yes it is a bit of a swim to get here…Far as I know the toys being taken by the Fun police will go up for auction.I don,t know if any of Oscar Ducks aircraft got caught up in the raids or not but I did see his Avenger was at Esk not long ago for an airshow.Beats looking at Yak52,s that are starting to pop up around the place like a plague of rabbits. You hear the damn radials and rush outside to see something cool and all it is a Yak..

Cheers Mark. With all the hassles Briggsy has had in the past I think he would take this in his stride.Bob is the one with the most stuff to move and I hope things travel well for them all.Is there much availability of workshops down there that the guys can move into??With the model I hope he doesn,t put it into the ground.Heard RC models have a tendency to do that sometimes…”shudder”..

To each there own I think. Many had a terrible experience during the war and if something traumatic happened it is sometimes something they carry with them the rest of their lives.War brings out the best and worst in people.
