Whats the saying about Warbirds? How to make a fortune with them?Start out with a larger fortune?
6AD Oakey 1945 to about 1948.180 odd Spitfires out of 500 or so aircraft scrapped there.Rest were P40,s a few P51,s,Boomerangs and Beaufighters..1100 Allison engines or so and assorted spare parts..Every man and his dog since the 1970,s has been through the place..All on an active Army Aviation base so cant get to most of it.Rest is on private property..Sometimes you can strike it lucky with farm auctions or swap meets as farmers scored a lot of stuff from surplus sales post war.
That was my thought too ..
Tom Delonge, the drummer for the Band “Blink 182” is doing the same with UFO,s..

If it helps, I have hundreds of Luftwaffe technical/instructional slides and I think there is a set on the DB.605.
Do you have them?
Only the manuals they have online.Very good for technical info but not much good for plans..

Also, if the engine was licence-built it would have, say, a Henschel or MAN enamelled badge. They are always stamped with the engine number.
Thanks Andy.Im finding that with parts as well such as the oil filler/breather on the top plate.Different versions, some cast, some sheetmetal, different shapes etc..
Enameled plates is my guess..Could get someone to 3D print them.
Im working off memory but didnt the Malta Aviation Museum have a sea recovered P40 on display that has been perfectly preserved and on display.Or am I thinking of a different Museum.
Progress..Going to be a big project..

There would be a lot I think.Looks like the Heinkel hit hard and disintegrated..No real archeological aspect, just upend everything to find things of value..No mapping of site or documentation taken. They werent even looking for data plates..
Is it me or does every recovery from a third world country end this way..
Lovely pics and info, thanks guys..I think the Damilar/Mercedes thing threw me as a modern addon not a ridgy didge article..The early sports cars shared the same badge to the engines.
And this one..Less 109 parts in it now I think.

Treasure hunters..
I think they spent more on painting the thing than by simply storing it inside, propping it up on a frame and having a simple story board. The P40 at Malta is a good example..
