Do these ” facsimile” Spitfires have 300 etc, part numbers stamped on them like the originals ?, because if they haven’t that’s where the root of the problem stems from.

A modern day sheety would have a heart attack stamping numbers and letters into new made parts..Stress raisers..Why they are all ink now.

Id rather trust my butt in a new build Spitfire than a 75 year old survivor with the advances in metallurgy, techniques and build quality.

which did have a real history and story to allow the ID of something with very little history then you have removed something linking it to it’s past and reason for existence.

Quite the opposite,it adds to its history.Only when it is burnt and buried in the ground then it is dead..Thats what the word “history” is…

Today, we gain another flying Spit, but seemingly lose an airworthy Meteor ( a hugely significant and rare type) , and whilst the Spit may be 10 times the ££value of a Meteor, sadly on this day, I think we are rather worse off.

Hopefully one day Meatboxes,Cranberries and a fair few newer jets will get the same treatment..Even today the USAF,s “legacy fleet” of 4th gen fighters are getting long in the tooth and will eventually be classified as “historical..We have technology and techniques today that people could only think as Science fiction back in the 1980,s when Warbirds started getting popular.Preserve what we have now for in 50 to a hundred years time what would we have to do to get a Desert Storm F18 into the air again?

Wasn’t at least one German pilot beaten to death by crowds? I recall the story as it being a pilot who’d bombed Buckingham Palace – but that just could just be the propaganda spin.

Off a hazy memory he landed in the East End where the area was hit pretty hard during the bombing.
There is an existing thread here abouts that details the darker side of civilians and captured pilots.

The USAF and Marine corps legacy fleet is falling apart at moment so any older airframes are being scrapped for parts to keep the forces up to spec.
